It's Ineffective To Punish Snipers By Lowering Dps (Heat Penalties Fail)

just shows clearly what happens to a stalker in melee now
wich cant hide behind his team anymore i call that a
betterment for balance not a perfect one but a first step!
No - that's what happens when a scrub player keeps alpha striking in a brawl. You'll notice that in all of the videos, I make a point to alpha as much as I can. That's not how I'd play with the new penalties; I'd switch to 2x2 shooting for brawls. The videos were for testing purposes, and I think it adequately demonstrates how largely unaffected good players will be.
Again, I would contend that the SRM damage increase did more for the game than the entire heat penalty system.

I'm not surprised. I've been one of the most vocal about why it won't work, but I figured a couple videos showing off how ineffective it is couldn't hurt.

I wish. No word from Phil, though I haven't talked to him since last week. We'll see what happens. If I can go on and make my case, I'll be thrilled; if not, it's not the end of the world.
Sadly, the more I see from PGI, the less faith I have that they'll ever re-evaluate anything they're doing. They'll probably look at the result of this patch and say, "The heat penalties worked!" instead of, "Buffing SRMs sure was a good idea."
They say they listen and that a lot of feedback gets "forwarded," but I'm pretty sure no one reads it and we're all just wasting our time.

Unfortunately just like when lights were everyone's go to mech, there were a handful of good light pilots and a crap load of bad ones. When they put collisions in it weeded that field out. Sadly the same has been the case with sniper mechs, I think this patch will certainly weed out the chaff and give those who excel at the role a new lease on life....

Try to play LRM mech & you will know what is really hard.
He is complaining about how sniping remains easy to do and remains effective. He is on your side and you're arguing against him. GOSH!

I'll agree to an extent. At least you have to know what you're doing to an extent now, and it's not the easy go-to win button for newbies. That said, it's a broken mechanic that the best pilots shouldn't be able to abuse. I have far more respect for a sniper that can put two 20-point bursts of damage on a target than a single 40-point alpha.
If you watch those videos, you'll see what I mean: it's just not that hard to camp out, pop up, take a shot, and chill out for a while. When jumpjet shake was in, I was at least proud of being a good poptart. Now, it's back to a relatively skill-less game of point and click.
Sniping (particularly when you have a non-PUG team capable of defending you) is a low-risk combat style. It also has the highest reward. I simply see no reason for a 'mech to do over 30 points of damage to a single component with a single click - particularly at long range.

not to mention that if that stalker actually got engaged in a fight with anything, it would be beyond screwed. you rocketed up to 80+% on a single alpha, and not alpha striking in a brawl will guarantee you will either A. stare down the enemy and let them ct core you. or B. spread all your damage all over the place. and potentially both.

I'm just here for the "debating" as well so I know the feeling. Some folks are too easy to rile up though. It's a hobby. On occasion I'll actually engage in game mechanics debates, but I'm pretty much here for the same reasons.

Seriously, why is anyone surprised at this point? They have a long track record of this sort of thing.
