Will we have smoke and setting places on Fire like in Table top?

In Table top you could create smoke cover by setting hexes on fire. Most types of terrain having no fuel source so cover disperses quickly, but forest burn and tend to stay on fire.

My suggestion is things like, dirt, grass, brush, sand, and buildings, be able to be fired at to create temporary visual obscuring smoke, while trees being set as sources of continuing fire and smoke. Heck I'd even enjoy a natural gas/ oil rich planet being a potential giant flamethrower.

It would add some more usefulness incentive to have light mechs on hand in a batlle.

I'd very much like to add this as a tactical element, but I'm not sure we'll see it. Sounded like there are issues with implementing destructible envorinment features, from an earlier dev post, though that might have only been applicable to terrain.

This would definitely add a richer dimension but if it is implemented I hope it does not tax the hardware too much.

They have said we will be able to set trees / forests on fire, although garth said it hadn't been implemented yet or turned on or something.

It would be nice to be able to set dry grassy areas and the other places you stated on fire also to create smoke but I don't think they will go that far.........at least not until a while after release if its possible.

Last we heard the trees aren't physical objects yet (from the gameplay footage). Being able to roast mechs by setting trees on fire would be a lot of fun :P
