I understand that you don't want this place to look like a truck stop bathroom stall, but aren't we going a little over-board on the censorship on the forum?

s_crew is censored?
p_iss?
d_ick? (maybe I can understand that one)

I can see harsher terms being frowned on, but maybe a little warning on entering that MWO is not responsible for every post made on these forums? Obviously any posts that the moderators find offensive/racist/intentionally antagonizing can be locked/removed.

I mean this is the internet isn't it?

True but does it really matter?

If it keeps out the imaturity, I'm all for it. A dedicated person will find ways to insult others without resorting to expletives anyway.

You're complaining about words that are actually offensive being censored? Seriously...I'm ok with that...

What I'm not ok with are words that are generally not offensive being censored... *** and ****...
for the record...i just typed the words g o d and j e r k...two words that are present in E rated movies....
Come on...really?...

Keep your assorted theology out of my mechwarrior.

You are not a universal barometer of what is offensive or not.

Might I suggest to the OP that you do a search on the forum before posting?
This has already been posted about in the web site support section of the forums.

Best one I have found was when someone mentioned Justin Xiang-Allards Centurion.
For those who don’t know it’s named The Yen-Lo-****, named after the Chinese *** of death

Yes that’s "Yen-Lo-W ang"

Posted here because I do not want the censorship of this forum to carry over into the game.

I imagine there will be in-game chat and feel that such censorship would quickly become tiresome.

There should be options in-game (and on this forum) to turn "bad" word filters on or off, or perhaps make custom filters.

I understand this completely.

It's definitely over the top.

It's edited out words which were intended to describe part of a joystick! As a result I don't know what control someone was referring to. It's ridiculous.

Yep.

The censorship is way over the top atm; it's editing out completely inoffensive language.

I hope they lighten it up when they get some admins and moderators.

That was hilarious. I contacted the Web Developer Kyle Polulak. He fixed that little problem. The Yen-Lo-Wang is now free to stalk the forum arena.

I found Kyle to be very helpful, and he expressed a willingness to adjust the filter within reason. I think the web forum is in good hands.

IF you read the thread in webstie support, you would see Kyle has offered to accept words to be removed, but you must contact him with the word and reasoning as to why it should be removed from the filter.

Perhaps Kyle could add the word Troll to the filter. Seems it passes the filter, and is abusive, versus many that don't pass yet aren't offensive given proper context.

Not that I worry about it myself. Want to be ignorant to someone, use PM. :)

I haven't noticed any filtering. So I don't care.
