Looks like the Crytek engine is getting a Linux port! Hope this means MWO will head to Linux sometime in the future. Check it out here.

I certainly hope this is the case, Mechwarrior Online is the ONLY, and I mean ONLY reason I even retain a working Windows 7 Installation. Which is unfortunate, because I haven't been able to even play MWO in almost 5 months due to the fact that I rarely have the time to shutdown my PC, switch to Windows from Debian, wait for Windows to boot-up, load, and login, finish playing, then repeat the process in reverse. Running Debian in a VM is also not optimal for my primary system, and VGA passthrough in VirtualBox/XEN to a Windows VM is still sketchy as well.
I have been able to get MWO working in WINE, but the experience is hit-or-miss (har), and I don't have the time to debug it. I know I'm not the only one patiently waiting in hope for a Linux client.

I don't think they're allowed to port it, Microsoft never sold the IP and supposedly licenses it out on the condition it is never released on a non-microsoft platform. I would be surprised if they ever sold it completely, maybe if the xbox one totally flops and they sold off the property from all the franchises they bought up and then killed.

From ask the devs 43
[Bryan] We are limited to Microsoft platforms. If this ever happened, it would be for a Windows platform device only.
This should answer the question.
