Too many of them in games... they do too much damage. Makes games boring if you get 3 or 4 mechs firing a barrage of missiles - U dead!

You've got a founders tag, didn't you survive lermpoccolypse? Or were you one of those wimps that stopped playing during that and therefor didn't learn how to deal with lrms? There are so many ways to defeat LRMs I don't see any reason to think they are hurting the game at all right now.

LRM heat nerfs are incoming. People are already ranting about it and CLEARLY they are right. LRMs are fine, as long as you have a couple...dozen...in your team. ;)

Rocks, cliffs, canyons.... they all stop Missiles, make friends with them and be safe from the rain.

About the only time missiles are a problem is if you are engaged with another mech and their LRM support crowd has picked you as a target because your opponent can actually, you know, hold a lock. And that's really only an issue on 2 maps. Maybe a 3rd (forest) if you are in the wrong part of the map. Anywhere else and you should be able to take the fight to some form of cover or obstruction.

In that case, your fast movers should be offering staunch prison love to the lrm boats anyway. What? All Assault match? Welcome to tourney weekend.

TOO MANY - TOO MUCH - TOO LITTLE REALISM = BORING

LRMs make for a particular type of game but for my approach to play, close-up scrapping with medium to large mechs and sniping, they simply take the fun out of the game. Too many missile equipped mechs, even given the new rules. If I happen to be in an exposed area (pretty easy to stumble upon) for long enough to be targeted by two well equipped mechs I frequently cannot find cover before being taken down within a matter of seconds. The AMS systems are not that effective and certainly not readily equippable on certain mechs that benefit from close fightinng or 'sniping' from behind cover. I have lost many mechs in battle trying working from positions behind rocks or buildings, where the missiles are so effective they follow around the 90 degree angle of the top of the object I am behind straight down to me...which is unrealistic and from a tatics standpoint and ridiculous from the standpoint of good simulation.

In my opinion it has reduced the strategy and tactics required to make for engaging game play and I am unfortunately starting to lose interest in MWO. I am just hoping there will be a rebalance that restores some...balance.

;)

Nice. Have you played the game at all since the Artemis bug that caused the behavior you describe? Because that's been gone for a very very long time.

Also, post with your main.

When the enemies out power you at long range, you simply don't charge at them, but instead wait for them to come to you where you can fight best ;)

I wish that were true! My mechs seem to be very target-able behind objects from long range missle attacks. Short range attacks around buildings and terrain do seem defeated by objects...but a Catapault or two firing long range, high arc, can take you down even if you're behind some substantial cover and even with an AMS.

Dude. There was an Artemis bug months ago that made missiles perform LITERALLY as you describe. Straight above you, right angle turn, straight down on your head.

That.

Does.

Not.

Happen.

Anymore.

You're invoking hyperbole where none is welcome. Please stop it.

When you are moving behind cover, move perpendicular to the flight path of the missiles - don't just back up in a straight line hoping you can outrun them in reverse. When a car is coming at you in the crosswalk, you run to one side or another, not in a straight line away from it.

Once you get used to the flight path and able to pick the right cover, they will become no problem. Small cover maybe not block LRM but they block the LOS which cause the LRM mech to lose lock, you just need to step aside in that case, also make sure the spotter dead.

You die even quicker with 3 or 4 direct fire mechs targeting you - it's called focus fire and has always resulted in quick kills.

LRM's can certainly be devastating, but only in packs lately. One alone isn't really that bad, sure they can rain and chew you up but barring a lucky crit will take quite a bit to kill you. 3 boats are a nightmare, but that's not OP, it's team work. LRM boats by nature are 99% of the time afraid to get hit, a single ac 2 does wonders to make them back off and lose their locks, it's a minor counter that doesn't kill them out right but a LRM boat behind rocks isn't doing much. There's an old joke: hey doc it hurts when I do this, doc says: well don't do that. I agree there are a lot lately and working together is brutal on the field, especially when having to close the distance to them so yes it can be frustrating especially when pugging, but patience, awareness, and an AMS system can go a long way. As a team fight on your terms not theirs and LRM boats become a detriment. Fight on their terms however...... expect them to do what they are built for with extreme efficiency. Pugging unfortunately doesn't net a lot of team work but be honest.... pugging is usually a spaghetti dinner one way or the other.

Bahgeera et al, it was not my intent to invoke hyperbole, I am merely reporting what I have been experiencing since the latest patch. I have played many, many rounds in the last week and I have had many mechs taken down, very, very quickly by missiles, while behind cover, at long distance (unfortunately just my description of events is not much to go on when what is really needed are the specifics). On the other hand, I was not aware of the 'Artemis patch' and due to travel was not playing much in Spring.

Look - if the forums are for sharing experiences then I am not sure why I would not be able to simply describe how I have experienced the game. I have played 'Mech Warrior' in all of it's software versions since 'Heavy Gear' was foray into this genre and this is my favorite game of all time. In my opinion - the missiles are too effective and it makes for a different game.

Tangelis - I can't disagree with what you're saying. If by 'pugging' you mean from close-up engagement to sniping from behind cover (what I termed 'scrapping') then yeah, no guarantees! I guess I just like that approach better and it reminds me more of the old games.

Dan,while many of us can understand your frustration, what the other posters are saying, is what most of us are seeing. I run mixed loadouts. Sometimes my missiles do most of my work, sometimes it's my lasers and ac's. You, are either having a run of bad luck, or, are doing something wrong. Almost always, if I die to LRM's, I can blame my movements, not the weapon. AMS, stay with your team, stay with an ECM mech, if one is on your team, hide behind cover and move a bit. You must do as many of those as possible.

By "pugging" he means "Pick-up-group"ing. Random teammates that, by and large, can't be trusted until proven otherwise.

I think the problem here is your timing. Let's look at a few parameters:

1. Alpha-Snipe boats just got nerfed. The average FOTM hopper is looking for something else to boat.

2. It's a tourney weekend with a focus on Assault mechs. This means more big mechs on the field.

3. Tourney weekend also means that people are playing, even more than normal, for themselves and not their team.

4. Chances are, when you were killed with LRM spam, it was because your team was occupied chasing some tiny mech when they should have been harassing the lrm boats, putting big delays in the rain.

5. Brawling, which is what you are referring to, is still playing the game in "hard mode." If you want "really hard mode" play a short range medium.

6. The reason for #5 is because silly players who sit back and trade long range salvos (even when they are clearly outgunned at that range) and die one at a time until the match is suddenly 4v8 - which swiftly leads to its inevitable conclusion.

The point is that the sense you are getting that LRMs are too powerful is just a side effect of several other things happening with the game right now.

pretty sure they are fine if two newly active topics denying each other are on the forum
and I too think that they are fine, aside from them hitting CT so easily(wich can be avoided too)
