I'm just wondering.... when I'm in my spider and have solid lock on a target I go to chat and say "requesting LRM support on F"; it works quite well, but does anyone else do it? I have never ever, ever, ever seen anyone else say that. Most people just leave it up to the LRM boater to spot tagged units or are left with guessing which targets to fire on.
If we help the support units, they help us win! Right?

Who else calls out or requests support things like LRM's or PPCs to punch out ECM's?

I do this. When I'm scouting and target something for LRMs, I'll frequently try to say something along the line of 'Requesting LRM support, X-mech in the open, B5.' I don't see it much, but I do use it, and it works.

When I do it, i try to make the message short, since typing in the chat is deadly. I typically use "lock on A" (when I see it and will for a while), and "LRM D" (when I see it and need it dead ASAP).

Communication is the key. Sometimes it works, sometimes noone responds, but I try it every time :)

You should consider telling people that you have TAG and are going into a certain area... this is in the hopes you get stuff done.

For instance, try messaging "will TAG @ B3" (perhaps, minus the will) before you actually head/reach your destination. This would hopefully get some LRM boat's attention and follow in your direction...

Of course, you should check whoever is an LRM boat to speak up (waiting for PGI to implement teammate loadout info is an eternity at the moment).

I did it once.

My team said they had LRM Boats.

I decided to get to brawling and called out targets for the Boats to murder.

It was very satisfying blowing up 'mechs while my team supports me with LRMs.

Not for LRM support. If I have a bunch of guys coming at me, I might call for brawlers.

When I'm on my LRM users I normally say "LRMs please press R to spot."

Having played a Lurmer in pugs I understand the frustration of firing just to lose the lock as you click, but also understand that in this age if silly-alpha builds, keeping a target locked long enough will often get you killed long before the missiles reach the target - If you can see him, he can aim 3x PPCs and a Gauss at you.. :)

Imo LURMs in pugs are often best kept until the mid to late game, when guys are already hurt bad and only a volley or two will kill them - With obvious exceptions like mechs caught in the open, or when backing off from a push and suchlike.

When I start up a match, I always tell my team mates, "I have LRMs for support" to let them know I will respond to target locks and tags.

Some tool actually scolded me for playing LRMs in an Assault match the other day, telling me that direct damage is always better for damage output than indirect. While that may be true up close, indirect certainly does better at 800m from behind a ridge where direct can't do squat.

Some days I really hate having to play PUGs.

Sometimes it is worth doing it, though less so for Lrm boats, as they seem to be rare (for me), but calling for the ppc boats to focus fire on one target actually can work wonders. Though, clearly you need to do it in a polite way, otherwise you'll just be ignored. It is also worth using the command/lance command to issue attack/defense orders.

Nonononono, the "not tanking damage for your team" is the ******* part of playing an assault LRM boat.

I try and tell people ahead of time if i have LRMS, if im holding target from a good vantage etc. As has allready been said, (good) communication is definitely the key to winning many matches.

I also try to help the new players, especially now the new LRM boats in the trial mechs with advice before hand and during if i can, as well as actual in game support, such as chasing of lights if i am able.

I do this too, and I feel your pain when I'm pugging. PM if you want to join a group.

As far as when I'm running my Spider I will typically let my team know that I plan to scout the enemy by going through this area and I'll try to get and maintain locks and that no one should follow me unless they're really, really fast. Then I usually say "do we have lrms?" This typically starts a bunch of chatter in game.

You know, I can't believe I never thought of doing this before. I'm going to start today. Great idea, bud.

Other than that specific method, though, I do request and offer assistance wherever necessary. If I'm carrying BAP/sensor range module/UAV, I'll ask if there are any LRMs on my team. If I don't have any of that, but a teammate tells everyone else he's carrying LRMs, I'll say "k" or "copy" or whatever, just to let him know he was heard. If I'm going for a resource cap in Conquest with a teammate, and then decide to branch off and let him take it so that I can either take another one, or intercept a target, or whatever, I tell him to call out if he gets ambushed and I'll swing back. If I see a teammate wandering off alone, especially if its a killzone like the ridge on Frozen City, I'll try to warn him away. And I always make extra effort to keep my eyes open for any teammate that has gotten separated from the pack and seems to be having difficulty with a target. Especially if he's only visible on the minimap - if his target has ECM and he himself lacks BAP, you wouldn't know he was fighting anyone at all if you weren't paying attention.

You never HAVE to PUG. Check out the recruitment thread.

When I get into PUG matches with my lone wolf friends I always let the team know that I have a TAG in my Spider or that I am LRM. Sometimes I get a response (one that isn't childish and derisive), many times it's just silence.

I don't type in combat, it's wasteful and dangerous though. Let them know up front, if they can leverage my TAGs, great.

But yeah, always a good idea to TRY to understand what everyone has and can do to get a plan together.

Anytime I see one of my teammates say they have LRM's I try to hold locks as long as possible. I have also been known to change targets when I see an enemy icon go hollow with missiles incoming to try to give the missiles just that little bit of time to get there and do what they were meant to do. In fact one game I got into a nice flanking position and just held locks for the two catapults on my team. The enemy team had no idea how the missiles were hitting them behind their "cover" until an Atlas spun to spread out the damage and saw me. :)

I'll definitely ask for the rain if we have an LRM carrier or two on the team. Usually just by the target letter. More often though I am giving position updates from the Advanced Wall Hack Module.

"3 or more camping the ridgeline"

"incoming right flank"

Stuff like that. Probably not as effective as direct requests, but it does help herd the cats.

Lately I have forgotten, but usually I will try just saying something like "Focus B" or just "D." Just getting pugs to settle on a target is a game-changer. Of course when I call the wrong target ... :)

No because good teammates will support you even if you don't ask for it and bad teammates won't even if you do.

My builds are usually either brawler-ish or the LRM guy... so I either need the targets or can't spare the time to type.

But by gum I WILL respond to request like that if there's any way I can. If a pilot is putting in the effort to get and hold targets, I will do my best to make their risks worthwhile.
