In my blackjack with 4 jump jets I pop-tarted up and made the first shot of the game on an enemy blackjack running towards me at about 600 m away.
The shot hit him square in the chest.
Paper doll says no damage
I was like what? I just shot 2 ERPPCs and 1 PPC at him, saw them hit him, and did no damage.
In chat (paraphrased):
Me: "Hey blackjack, no damage?"
other guy: "No damage"
Me: "It looked to me that I smacked you right in the chest"
other guys: "did to me as well"
So basically, he saw himself get hit then came out with no damage. I have a low 90 ping and a consistent connection. Based on his movement vector there isn't any way he wasn't hit somewhere, he was moving TOWARDS me; there was no need to lead. Thus the shot hit and somehow did no damage, and also my reticule didn't go red either.

Well, really everyone that has these kinds of issues must e-mail support. I think that this is highest priority for PGI to fix if they want people to keep playing AND for new players to stay. Several friends that I invited stopped playing because of this, they said that Counter Strike had better hit detection. And also the pinpoint damage stuff, but that's another issue.

it doesn't only happen with ppc (or AC), i saw myself as a BJ-1X shot with 8 med laser in the "skull" of an atlas moving to my right and.. doing barely nothing, the next time i shot (some seconds later) he took the 40 damage, this problem seem to be very random and fluctuating.(and it mean the HSR don't work alway on every weapons)
PS: my ping shouldn't be the real problem here as it is alway in a average of 100

which is a misconception, average ping means nothing. How often it fluctuates does, it doesn't have to jump far but if it is jumping often you have yourself lagshield on your target. That said PGI have also admitted there are bugs, which are proving difficult to lock down and have no eta on a fix

I've seen myself shot with a PPC, splashed on my viewscreen. Took no damage. For once. Yay! Er, kinda.

It seems to happen a lot more with PPCs than other ballistics. Not sure what the reasons are behind it but maybe projectile speed? It's why I find large lasers so much more reliable and always use those over PPCs.

happens a LOT with gauss rifles. I see the impact, I see the sparks flying, no damage is registered.

It's a known issue, and one of top priority. The forum doesn't need "proof", but it certainly wouldn't hurt to send a ticket in case your details can assist in the investigation.

What Redshift said. The hit detection issue was acknowledged by PGI in the release notes of the last patch, and they have said they are committed to addressing it ASAP.

I've had this issue as well. Also had the inverse - I see a shot clearly miss me, no impact sound, no cockpit shake, then suddenly a side-torso explodes.

You just managed to do curvedshots, like in that movie with Angelina Jolie. ;-)
