Yes, LRMs are quite numerous these days. And yes, most light and medium mechs cannot afford to waste precious tonnage with an AMS. But most heavies and assaults can!

Take out a heatsink and reduce the armor for half a ton and equip an AMS. Don't do it for yourself, do it for the team! 4 mechs standing more or less close to each other, all with an AMS, can take out a whole lrm20 salvo.

Thank you.

I keep my arms bound, but I think I'm in the minority in that I'm smart enough to hold Shift down when I want to gain that extra movement. It is hilarious to watch folks struggle to hit me when I'm higher up than them though.

As for AMS, YES! Use it! A group of 3-4 AMS users can put missiles to a dead halt. Just this morning I ended up on a team that seemed like everyone had AMS, and funny enough, the majority of the other team were LRM boats. We completely destroyed them, and from what I saw not a single LRM managed to land.

Seriously, guys. I appreciate you all trying to help my raise my tournament scores by letting me sit back and chain-fire my LRM10s without fear of them being shot down, but I'm starting to feel bad.

Also... for those who's team may have LRM's... EQUIP BAP DAMN YOU! All my assaults and heavies have both.

I remember leveling up my Stalker 5S with two AMS's. I grouped with a guy doing the same thing. It was amazing how many missiles we shot down.

Personally I have AMS on every mech I own.

Yep. Its a thing of beauty when you get a team with 4 stalker 5s that are LRM boats in some way or another..and all equip dual AMS. Talk about triple-A fire...

Always used to run with AMS on everything except lights, pretty much. But that was back in Closed/Early Open Beta when it wasn't uncommon to suddenly get a few hundred missles flying down at you from the other side of the map. With the increased focus on pin-point sniper damage than mass LRMs at range, i'm having a hard time justifying keeping it around. Since i started playing again (about a week ago), i've barely ever had a match where i felt the AMS would have made a difference. Usually it's just one missile boat or two, if any, and aslong as you don't wander around in the open too much you can usually break line of sight or block the swarm with cover.

Cover is pretty hard to find in Caustic if you want to go join the brawl in something that does less than 75 kph.
If I am in a brawler assault I'll equip AMS so that I can help myself and the blob that is hopefully following me to the brawl. For longer range mechs you can stay in cover. For faster mechs you can stay in cover.

I think the OP has a good point and I hope more people pugging equip AMS. When min maxing for 8 mans I can understand dropping AMS.

The problem is AMS with ammo is 1.5 tons and 2 crits. I always mount it if I can but with the screwy heat mechanics sometimes even one DHS is the difference between a heat controlable build and one that you can't do anything with except shutdown. In fact a majority of my mechs are tight on space and tonnage and I would almost always have a bit of extra heat managment or a bit of extra firepower especially since I am pretty decent about using cover to keep LRMs from raining on my head most of the time. Same goes for BAP. It is definately useful if you got the extra tonnage/space but again most my builds are very tight.

I think the issue is that both of these are only situationally useful but firepower and/or heat management is always useful.

They help with brawling against SRM's and Streaks too. Think of them as a a ton and half of extra armor for your brawler.

This video is a good example of how good AMS can be:

At around 4 minutes the enemy team starts their push. At first view it seems like they get obliterated by showers of lrms, but you'll notice how most of them get shot down by multiple AMS. The enemy team wins and AMS played a strong role in that win. :)
