OPERATION INCEPTION Question

I did try to look around for an answer before posting, but I didn't find one. I can guess at the answer, but since it deals with real money, I'd rather be sure:

OPERATION INCEPTION can be bought in June, and used in July. We get in-game credits and stuff.

Neat.

However, all this is still CLOSED Beta. Open Beta won't happen until later.

Also, every game, like ever, always has a character wipe in between closed and open betas.

So...

When open beta arrives, will we be given a refresh of our in-game $40/$80 money, and mech (for Elite packs)?

It is either that, or no wipe between closed and open beta, and I can't see there being no wipe with all the in-game changes that happens of the course of betas and things.

From the tone of the devs, I'm sure the answer to my question will be 100% resonable, but I still need that answer.

Unfortunately, since this deals with real-life money (Do I save up the money now, or wait to pay normally when open beta starts?), I really need an answer from a staff member or even a dev. The user base here is cool, but users just don't know what devs/staff knows, and I need a real answer before I use my real money.

Thanx.

I would not be surprised if the Mech and in game cash don't even kick in until open Beta,,,, Or at least after the reset. The only thing I am counting on for July 17 is getting into the Closed Beta.. The rest I figure is for the actual game..

The devs have stated there will be no more wipes after July 17th when the O:I players get in.

I was under the impression that the $40/$80 in game currency was for release only, and after re-reading the original post it says "Early access to the game along with Founder's assets availability starts July 17th." No mention of this being Beta access, I think this is early access to release.

Full post is here of course http://mwomercs.com/...tion-inception/

F2P games tend to do something called a "Soft beta." This is where they semi launch the game in a "beta" state and invite a ton of people. They peoples work isn't lost but things can still change in game coding and rule wise.

Its one of the major perks of launching a F2P game. No other game that has a sub can launch like this.

Either they will not have an open BETA or their open BETA will be for only a couple weeks. That bothers me is that most game take a yr to go from Closed BETA to full release. But MWO will do it 2 1/2 months. This all depend on how long Early Access will last.

Without clear cut sayings it is hard to understand. But I would assume that during a open beta time frame having a founders mech, or premium account time would be little reason. Due to simple nature we are still testing builds, and bug hunting. Why would the company have us give them money for the package, and then make it so it would be less then ideal using the contents of the package during a beta period.

But I don't know exactly what is planned since no one person that I know of has speficly come out and said anything. It just seems to be a strange idea that we would have premium accounts and such during a open beta period.

The latest edit to tthe new player sticky says acess to closed beta on july 17 with the founders stuff. I tend to gonwith that as a clarification.

Yeah I started reading some of the Dev posts and from what I can gather it will be beta (would have to be closed beta or else it wouldn't be early access) and there will be no further data wiping after July 17. Personally I will probably be saving any paid-for in game currency until after release, but they'll already have my money so they won't mind. ;-)

They said that they will have an 'Open Beta Release'

Also that operation inception provides 'Early Access'

From past experience Early access is just a few days.

So my guess is that Open beta will start the 20th of July.

The hard part for me is that If I don't get into the Closed beta I won't have a chance to see what I like. Thus, I may get an Operation inception mech I detest and that would suck. Once your in it from the 17th of July and onwards they said they won't wipe, which means whatever you pick, you get. For better or worse.

not really.

the jenner can mount an srm or an lrm, and has hard points for 4 med lasers or 2 large ect.

the hunchback comes in variants to mount med lasers in the arms and ac 20 or 6 med laser pod in torso, you could swap the lasers for 2 ppcs if you worked at it.

the catapult can be a missile boat with lrms srms or theres a k2 version with energy hard points instead of missiles.

the atlas is a beast, it can mount a large gun(ac 20 lbx 10 uac 5 Gauss rifle) med or large lasers in its arms, maybe even ppcs if theres room, lrms, srms.

ill be picking the atlas because i like being the mobile fortress over the nimble assassin or the speedy scout. catapult would be my second option since it can bring alot of fire support and is mobile.

ps, you dont have to pick your inception mech first thing, you can try out the 4 chasis regular versions, and then pick the inception one you liked best.

Gears of War 3 had a closed beta roughly 2-3 months before it was realeased. That worked out fine. It just sort of depends on how well the developers balanced the game before beta.

That's a good point; let's hope that's entirely what they mean. However- closed beta or not, I want to see for myself what they've done.
