Pictures at eleven!

I was pondering this and it might seem crazy.

A poll on the forums had like 170 people who admittedly purchased the $80 package. Those are likely the ones who dig the new assault mech, like me, but hell, all I play are stalkers and spiders!

Just think. Between October when founder BM's drop until a couple weeks after the Cbills hit the streets, nearly every assault mech on your pug team, will be some form of Battlemaster.

And this is a good thing. Every variant I look at, least before its ex-elled and deepee ess'd for 15 million Cbills, these mechs beg for a balanced, sensible loadout. And they're the 3rd heaviest "assault" mech, 494 armor, I believe.

So if most of the monsters on your battlefields, for a short while, are natural brawlers, strikers, and plinkers, matches may last longer! Alterac Valley scrums, no I've never been accused of optimism. But fun, tactical matches, where no one cares who wins, because this **** is fun?

I'm in, look for a funky purple Battlemaster, standard motor and things that break stuff!

you forget the part where the BMR can mount crazy gauss/ppc loadouts with room to pair.

Personally, I may have bought Overlord, but I'm going to be messing around with the Shadow Hawks for at least a few weeks before I tackle any of the others.

All I'm saying is that in random, solo drop pugging, I'd much rather face a BM than poptat Highlanders of doom, 4 PPC stalkers and worse, or God forbid a mastered Atlas or three like I'm getting now! :)

I'm just crossing my fingers it'll make going solo more fun and interesting for an interlude.

tbh the thunderbolt is really starting to intrigue me, (assuming it doesn't end up being wider than an awesome)

i can't see how you can not fit any "feared" stalker/highlander loadout in a battlemaster, beside jumpjets. Why should this mech be different. The minmaxers will come and will build their fotm loadout in this thing.

This^

I foresee 4 PPC/Gauss builds in the Battlemaster's future.

Technically 7PPCs+Gauss is actually fittable. It's utter crap and will die if you sneeze on it or if it fires, but it's doable. I'd expect to see some people using it for the 1HK lols, even if it's a suicide build. 4PPC+Gauss will probably be a legitimate build irrespective of Max Alpha. It'll do enough pinpoint gank to justify the heat spike, really with a build like that an alpha can take you to 99% and you don't care, just sidle back into cover. And remember not to alpha the lot in CQC unless you know it'll kill the only threat.

As I recall, someone figured out that the 7PPC+Gauss build went immediately to somewhere around 190% heat.
With the current damage from overheating, it'll fry itself the first time it alphas.

Much like Misery, the founders Battlemaster seems to me, to be a natural for a balanced build. If that includes Gauss, PPC, SRM 4 and a medium laser, it still has to manage heat like the rest of us and do it's role in a solo drop without building cheese.

I'm hoping those Ferrari builds that cost so many Cbills will be fewer in number for a brief window of fun in pugs.

I mean, imagine if the PP Assault mech had been a 100 ton Doom Mo-cheen Of Instant Death and Fiery Wrath?

Again, I don't do optimism well, but I can still dream a little!

The Battlemaster was just my favorite on the tabletop, so thats my reason. I actually prefer mediums, then heavies, then lights. Assaults are dead last because I hate how slow they are, but I think playing all fields is good for understanding their weaknesses :)

with how weak the overheating penalty is, it will be easy to get around this while still being ridiculously deadly. the only problem with this build is you have a top speed of 40kph.

Please, don't think that all who bought Overlord will be riding BLR. I bought it and it will be nearly the same as it was with Founders. Since the Closed Beta I rode out in my Founder's Atlas about 4 times. And about 2 times in Jenner. These two are not my cup of tea, but I wanted to have a choice, and I wanted to uphold MWO as a project.

The same reason goes with the Phoenix package. I'm a med-heavy pilot and I won't be riding BLRs, but I'll surely get my tons of fun with TDR. And even while I totally hate SHD as a mech in TT and don't like its looks in MWO, I'll give it a shot, as MWO gives this model another chance. Maybe even Locust will appeal to me, we'll see.
And I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one to think like that.

So, don't rush with the negative anticipation.

I'm going to be rockin' my BLR-1G as stock for ar least a few matches.

PPC, SRM6, 6 med lasers, 2 MGs - and THIRTEEN heat sinks. :)
