So, the latest and greatest dev tracker or content thing or whatever has Bryan saying DX 11 is coming in August.

so here is my question: will I require a DX11 compatible GFX card to continue playing MWO?

I have a very powerful, but also old, current graphics card. While I can currently run MWO on full settings, I know that in closed beta things looked different, as in they toned down textures and lighting A LOT. So, given my current card is old anyway, I am contemplating a new card. or at least a newer DX11 compatible one.

Will I have more time then a few weeks to pick one out, or is it going to be mandatory when the Engine update hits to have DX11?

Following this, does anyone have a good suggestion for an Nvidea card that meets DX11, but isnt like shiny new so it doesnt cost 600 dollars? I lost track of the series numbers over a year ago so I have no idea what is relatively new or not.

If a dev has spoken on this subject, some links would be nice. Otherwise, I invite a staff member to elaborate on the plans for DX 11 implementation coming apparently shortly.

theres an option to switch between DX9 and DX11 i believe.

so if you arnt compatible, you probably just wont have the option to use DX11 in that option

Look in your options in the game and you notice that it states Direct X 9 already. When DX11 comes out people will be able to choose that option if their computer can handle it, but the option of DX9 will still be there for people with lower end systems so more people can play the game.

So your pretty safe when the change comes.

Thank you for the reply. I am glad i have more time to choose a new card.

Speaking of, does anyone have a suggestion for a good bang for the buck Nvidea card?

I use a 650 Ti it is reasonable price and I can run at 1080P with max settings and maintain a 45 FPS frame rate

GeForce GTX 570 is a great card. It is 2 years old but I can still play all modern games on high settings no problem and at 60fps.

DX11 is always an option not a requirement. At least not yet. DX9 & 10 PCs are still too common for any game developer to strictly be DX11 only.

I remember when DX 10 was first released. There were a bunch of games that came out that were DX10 only. They all failed miserably due to no one having dx10 at the time. PC games will always be plagued with having to cater to the older hardware generation. As long as there are still XP boxes they will release dx 9 versions for games.

XP runs out soon though. Expect a sudden decline in XP usage after next year. DX10 may get skipped as the bottom bar though since you can get DX11 for Win 7.

I have the same card and it has been solid.

Yea, I am not falling for it this time. I will believe it when I see it in the patch notes not before.

Well really does depend on your budget but I'd check if you can get anything in the nvidia 700 series. They're all solid cards and usually faster than previous generation at the same price point.

I have an nvidia 660 TI. I play MWO maxed at a steady 60ish fps. I've played every game I've tried to play in recent history--Bioshock Infinite, Dishonored, Far Cry 3, Tomb Raider--more or less maxed with a steady framerate above 45. My card is currently going for a little under $300. In my opinion, that's an absolute max for what you should spend on a card. Consoles domination of the market has kept hardware requirements relatively in check for a while now, so I'd expect that card to get you by for years to come.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the XBox 360 supports 9c (actually a superset with a couple additional features, but who cares), while the PS3 is built on an oddball custom API that looks a whole lot like OpenGL (but actually isn't) with comparable capabilities to directx 9c. Any game that was made for multiple platforms was designed to still look decent and more often than not have all the major graphical features (albeit turned down) on the lowest common denominator (360). The primary goal of Cryengine 3 was to get the engine running on consoles. See where I'm going with this?

The 760 GTX is in a really good performance/price position, at ~ $250. Make sure it works with your system (i.e., your PSU can support it, etc). Built a system 2 days ago with a 760.

This hierarchy chart gives a good sense of performance differences, and the article before it talks about value per dollar. http://www.tomshardw...iew,3107-7.html
