I cant stand those people who disconnect when they get a map or condition or something they don't like, it spoils things for all the other players.
but this map has, i'm afraid to say, turned me into one of those people.
Please PGI, shrink it, or take it out of rotation, or at the least, make sure it's NEVER conquest mode on alpine.
I've just played 4 games in a row of alpine, conquest mode. the first 3 i saw 1 enemy mech, in all 3 games combined. He was near instakilled by the 2 mechs i was running with and myself.
We "won" all 3 games by capping, and I was in a Stalker ffs. I'm not trying to cap, but having seen not 1 enemy mech and agonisingly slowly crossed the entire map, i had nothing else to do.
this map is AWFUL, I don't want to be one of those people that disconnects and spoils the game for others. I love this game other than this abomination of a map. But each time this map loads, I start wondering what other game I should play. I play games for fun, I don't have enormous amounts of time to game so I treasure the time I do get to do it.
dont waste my precious gaming time with this awful map. I won't any more, and if it keeps coming up I'll just play something else...

Alpine Conquest?

I agree with you that Alpine is terrible. Unfortunately some people seem to think it is a good map and I feel that PGI falls in with that crowd
.
Although I do not play Conquest often, when I did, Alpine was a chore. I would like to see PGI at the least, move the capture points closer together.
Overall though, Alpine needs a major overhaul to help funnel mechs to multiple pinch points and improve sightlines (something more similar to Tourmaline).
Alpine is just an unbalanced mess that makes me sad.
P.S.
this map is AWFUL, I don't want to be one of those people that disconnects and spoils the game for others.
Then don't. I hate Alpine as much as anyone, but I play through it. It is only a few min. long anyway, just hang in there. The only thing I hate more than Alpine is people disconnecting because of the map.

I LOVE alpine in conquest! You can almost feel the wind blowing through you hair.
Of course, I only play conquest in a fast light. If I want to blow things up, I play Assault.

You moaned when the maps weren't big enough, and you're now moaning they are too big....please, for all our sakes...make up your damn mind!

Actually, I was against the bigger maps. I thought it would lead to more base racing...which on Alpine it did.
I was wrong though for the most part. Tourmaline is a large map and it was done reasonably well. I think it leaves a lot of room for flanking and the sight lines are good and well defined. There is good cover, wide open spaced with good terrain changes. Also, the map funnels players to pinch points. Canyon network is also good at doing this.
Alpine is just one wide open mess with (at least on assault) one base with a clear advantage over another. Often the map is an engagement near the large cliff between the bases or the radio tower. Plus the map has a huge tendancy to turn into a base race when a team deviates past that meta.
As for Conquest, the map is just FUBAR. Going from base to base is about as eventful as driving a lonely 2 lane highway in the middle of no where. It isn't necessarily due to size, but due to no real focus or direction on how to channel mech movements.
Overall the map is a mess. I'm glad some people really like the map, but it is pretty flawed compared to other much more well done maps in MWO (that are both large and have wide open engagement areas).

Conquest on Alpine is awesome! PGI just needs to reward cappers more on Conquest matches is all. Reward us for not following the assault konga line to Epsilon to duke it out. Catching a lone light out there between Theta and Kappa for some 1:1 light brawling, really separates the boys from men out there. Commit or die. Some of my best kills were out there. My in my TDK, ran across 2 more Commandos and a Cicada..... I left their smoldering remains in my dust.

I wouldnt say its great. But I am always on that same path, and it is about as close to 1v1 duels as you are gonna get on here. I personally think that over there between those caps, where the one small hill is the best spot. 1v1 light (raven vs raven, jenner vs jenner, and so on) is the best time and show of whos boss I have on here. Though I hate to admit it may stem from past years of WoW arena Gladiator grinding lol.

I love Alpine in conquest.
I pilot a 150kph RVN and that map offers the opportunity to go one-on-one quite often. I enjoy taking on mechs of any size that way.

Alpine conquest is lots of fun when you're in a fast mech. This is where light mechs shine and can win the game for the team!
