specific weapon load outs AREN'T a meta.
Meta is more the preference and superiority of Burst damage weapons (PPC, Gauss, AC/20)
vs DPS style weapons (lasers, machine guns)
or the preference of Assault mechs of smaller faster mechs.
or Long range direct fire sniping
vs Long Range Indirect LRM
i get your concern though, A true fix would be something that encourages sustained DPS load outs in some situations while making Burst DPS builds inferior in those situations but still preferable in others.

Same difference honestly.
I vote the game remains ruled by a preference of PPC, Gauss and AC20s. In whatever combination that works.

NO NO NO. Then the players with knowledge would exploit that to make heat neutral builds or something.

You forgot 4x ML + 2LL...
No matter what change they make there will always be a new maximum. It looks like there are more new maximum options however.

I'm so up to my gills with the anti-alpha rhetoric around here i'm ready to puke...
pin-point alphas are not a symptom... it's an excuse.

There will also probably be an increase of the shotgun builds
2xLBX10 + 2xSRM6s
2xLBX10 + 2xSRM6s

Only that unless the LL has a serious advantage in first shots fired it looses out to up-front damage.

I said that when it first started.
Alpha strikes have always been a part of MW. Trying to dis-include it now is silly. Not to mention if you are alpha based vs dps based you are going to have heat issues period. DPS builds are already on the rise. If people just let the meta adjust they might find we are closer to where either are just as viable. We were already close to begin with.

Make the Mechs tougher before the Clans arrive and show you what mechs can really do with loadouts. I can hear them laughing at you now. 1 Gauss and 2 PPCs, rofl! Try 2 Clan Gauss and 2 Clan ERPPCs, a 60 point alpha at 700 meters.
Trust me, you just need to make the Mechs tougher somehow and probably drop all the group-fire nerfs that will crush Inner Sphere's already DHS heat-nerfed mechs. Or suffer the nerd rage in a game that's gone Live.
