So I didn't quite like the Hunchback with all those ML's, so for sh*ts and giggles I stripped off all the armour and filled it with LL instead based on an old build someone suggested.

I saw them firing an alpha and hitting the heat limit but not enough for shut down, when I tried it in practice I shut down, I'm assuming due to whatever the recent bonus heat was added in later patches (I'm fairly new to MWO). I just salvo them now.

So after this patch will my Hunchback LL build be generating anymore heat than it already does? Sorry if I didn't understand the patchnotes correctly, just curious.

If you fire them more than two at a time. They will generate more heat. The more you fire at once, or within .5 seconds of each other, the more heat will be applied. If you fire them in groups of two separated by at least .5 a second they act as normal.

New heat penalties... I thought this game was ridiculous enough. Well it seems, I was wrong. Stop fixes for noobs and llamas, and screwing normal players! Save us from this LSD heat bacchanalia!

I knew the more than 2 weapons gave bonus heat but I think that was an older patch, not this one?

In this one they linked weapon families. If you fire LL and ERLL, for example, they count as the same weapon for penalty purposes.

Have had no problems with the changes. The new map on the other hand, is the biggest POS I have seen. Were is the fun in it. I have not heard one good thing about it in drops. O look run around and time up or points done not a scratch on anyone. Boo! for even thinking that is fun.

Not at all. It has EVERYTHING to do with the latest patch, Mr. HJ (Where's Lynxcat? I need to shoot at him). It is a superior solution to the convoluted heat penalty system.

Lynxcat hasn't been on much. I think real life got in his way.

You had no problems simply because you didn't get used to almost normal balance.

It's a rather large map that should really come into it's own with 12v12. Right now, if you are in a mech faster than 64kph, it's still a blast, in my opinion.

I personally know several Founders from closed beta, long time MW fans, that have spent hundreds on hundreds of dollars, who are so disgusted with the way this is going that they uninstalled the game and refuse to play it.

I also happen to BE a Founder who has spent hundreds of dollars who actively plays. Anecdotal evidence is anecdotal.

I get that people are unhappy with certain mechanics. I certainly don't think it's all sunshine, lollypops, and unicorns. Weapons need better balance, communication needs to be more frequent and more clear, we need a realistic sense of when we REALLY are going to see CW in any meaningful form, etc.

That said, Mucia Prata made a very valid point. Based on the sheer amount of teen angst spewed, you'd think the game killed everyone's puppy with cancer. Tone down the "AHMAHGAHD", dripping sarcasm, and trollfests and you'd have a lot more of us on board with your criticism. No, you can't please everyone, but when you run through the streets screaming "WE'RE ALL DOOMED!", not pleasing everyone is kind of an understatement. Yes, other emotionally unstable people might agree with you, but when you show up to a Flat Earth Society meeting, just because everyone else around you agrees the world is flat doesn't make it so.

TLDR: People actually read and consider rational criticism. People skip over or discount angsty, troll-ridden, or obviously exaggerated posts.

I don't have a problem with the heat penalty system per sé.
It is suboptimal compared to hardpoint restrictions and especially convergence, but game play is IMHO better than before the previous patch.
Of course, LL/ERLL/LPL could be increased to 3...

But I have a problem that the people responsible for this heat penalty blah are lazier than cats.
Shooting e.g. a LRM 20 and 2 LRM 5 counting as 3 LRM 20? REALLY?
I could live when the heat penalty would be calculated this way, but at least the base heat should be applied per weapon and not miraculously increased.
Same with a combo of e.g. two PPCs and one ERPPC OR 3 SRM4 and one SRM6. Please calculate base heat and heat penalty per weapon, not with an overcomplicated formula which is totally B***S***.

And, BTW, the new map looks cool and is total crap. Thank you for this mech hiking simulator...

Everybody is complaining about PPC mutants? PGI adding boating restrictions. Scared noobs are still not satisfied? ERPPCs and PPCs and all kind of that stuff was put in the same heat group, and so forth. What, 30t Spiders with Gauss Rifles and 35t Ravens with AC/20 was not ridiculous enough? Why this stuff wasn't fixed yet? Because nobody is scared of this freaky builds, despite that they are as much nonsense as 6 PPC Stalkers and Awesomes are.

If you have Avast! A/V and an AMD processor, you are to uninstall Avast! and the game will work till there is a fix.

Just a FYI, I believe in your LRM example the LRM 5s are exempt. However, if you had say, 2 LRM 20s and a LRM 10, and fire all three within .5 seconds, the LRM 10 would have it's heat calculated as a LRM 20.

It's definitely not elegant, but I don't know of a MMO-style video game that does not go through balance iterations.

I believe the map will play much better in 12v12. Personally I don't have a problem with the map since my Jenner travels at 150kph ... I have no problem finding contacts.

My biggest issue is for me it crashes now after about 30mins of play and I don't like the new map at all. It's very restrictive but big? I guess the paths are narrow and easy to miss each other. Imho I think the game play is decent so now release some more game content like CW or missions or something to give this game more longevity quick please. Bored to death.....

I think the heat penalty system has done a good job fixing the extreme (60 point) pinpoint alphas. I know that you can still have the twin ppc/gauss combo, but a 35 point alpha on 4 second cooldown seems like an ok option for someone wanting a long range fire support mech.

I occasionally run that combo on my firebrand when I want some sniper fun, And sure I have really good damage/kill matches, but sometimes I have horrible matches when I am flanked by fast moving mechs. 35 damage at once sucks, but as long as you play smart it isn't going to end your match. I see too many people poke their heads around a corner, get hit by that 35 points, then either charge towards said sniper in the open, or sit at the same spot and poke their heads out 4-5 more times in the SAME spot, then die without doing any damage to the other team.

Having said that, the LL family should be increased to 3 or 4 for the alpha limit. Also it would be nice to have a less convoluted heat penalty system. Like for example, each weapon over the limit causes double heat (using the highest heat weapon for the new linkings) Something as simple as that is easy to understand, and penalizes bigger weapons like ERPPC's more so then something like the medium lasers.

Edit for new map: I actually have been enjoying this map EXCEPT when I run in an Atlas. Running this map in anything that moves slower then 65-70 KPH is excruciating. Not only because of limited paths, but because of the many speed-reducing hills.

WTF are you talking about? This is why people who enjoy this game, or at the very least have a fantastic ability to read and comprehend, shake their heads at ragers.

LRM 20 + 2 LRM 5

Base heat: 6 + 2 + 2 = 10

As lrm5s aren't linked with LRM20s, there is no heat penalty.

And lets just go with weapons that are actually linked rather than made up numbers you're fruitlessly trying to argue.

LRM20 + 2 LRM 10

Base heat: 6 + 4 + 4 = 14

Penalty: 6 (base heat of LRM 20) * .18 (scale) * 2.8 (multiplier) = ~3

Total heat generated: 17

Firing 3 LRM 20s

Base heat: 18

Oh wait, it's already less even with the penalty, and you don't have a clue...imagine that.

Hm, should the highest base heat applied only for purposes of the heat penalty, then it would be o.k. Need apparently some more tables or a better explanation.
