Thanks! Works fine after reinstalling Avast! ;)

After reinstalling Avast!, did you allow it to fully update (added) and rebooted your system before playing MWO?

For others, PGI has a sticky in the patch area and they are looking into it.

AMD and Avast user here. I can confirm uninstalling Avast fixed my problem, you must restart your system after uninstalling for it to take effect.

One problem... I don't use Avast. I use Microsoft Security Essentials, so I cannot uninstall what I don't have.

That is an additional download. It can be uninstalled via Control Panel, Programs and Features and will be listed as Windows Essentials 2012, iirc.

Again, this is only a temporary workaround. Remember to reboot. Report back your findings. To reinstall use the Windows Update.

Thank you,

Also, report your findings in the thread linked below. As of right now we have only heard from AMD/Avast! users. Considering Avast! is the most downloaded antivirus program in Europe, the timing is about right.

People need to forward this to support@mwomercs.com ASAP so they're aware of it. They don't always catch forum entries like this. Mass email them with it!

Its not a fix all. I have an i7 intel based system. Was running an AMD 7970 video card. Was'nt working. Removed video card, replaced with an nvidia 580. I had avast installed, but i uninstalled and still not working. Removed catalyst. The game. Replaced all drivers. Checked firewalls, Permissions, Administrative execution. Scanned for virii, bots, trojans. And man! We aint found ****!

*UPDATE*
ok Just got through using the MWO Repair Tool. And that fixed some corrupted files apparently. The game is loading for me now. Hope it helps.

Unfortunately, the game doesn't work again after a system restart. MWO Repair Tool doesn't help.

are you on a AMD system running avast?

Yep, AMD + Avast! But nothing of that helps. Wrote to tech support...

The second workaround (disabling hardware-assisted virtualization in Avast's 'troubleshooting' section) actually works, but the game and PC are working slower...

edit: Not using avast!

I forwarded solution I found or problem.

I am having same issue with AMD processor and Avast. I uninstalled AVAST and reinstalled. I was able to get in game. Then AVAST updated and I left the game for an hour or so. Tried to re enter and it crashes.

AVAST reports on my computer show no actions taken. So there is some conflict with AVAST and the newer virus definitions. But AVAST is not throwing any warnings or taking action.

I removed AVAST for now and am using AVG and its working. I dont like AVG but its better than having no protection.

Just to update. No need to uninstall Avast!. Also, on reinstalling Avast!, the one that is disabled below is not fully installed until a system reboot. Without rebooting a user is not affected yet.

In order to workaround this issue, there are 2 currently known workarounds

1 - un-install Avast! and reboot your PC.

2 - Instead of uninstalling and reinstalling Avast open Avast, go to settings and under the troubleshooting section uncheck the box for "Enable hardware-assisted virtualization". Then reboot and you should be able to launch MWO with no problems."

(special thanks to Silvercrest for uncovering this and sharing with the community
