Happened yesterday in my HGN-HM. River city, just started game, friendlies move out, I'm facing enemy spawn, I see incoming gauss shot, and BAM, back armor orange. Shouldn't happen.

Supposedly on some mechs, if you get a crotch shot, it goes to back armor instead of front armor. Not sure if this is what happened to you. Unless they change that area to be legs, there is going to be some kind of seam between front and back armor, so some non-zero chance of getting either back damage applied to front or front damage applied to back.

Yes I was aware of the back shots above the legs getting applied to the front, didn't know its broken the other way around too.

shot a ravin in the back with a large laser, all continuous, and did like 1 or 2 damage to the front

It's not the crotch, this is a huge issue for some of us with.. once again.. THE HIT DETECTION. I've had pretty much all of my damage from behind get transferred to front, and not only CT but also RT and LT.
