Thanks for the advice. :D

It's kinda a classic set up and will probably be much better once the SRMs actually work right.

Is SRM Improvement something that is actively being worked on, or just something we hope for?

Edit: How much back armor should I take off there?

Take out 1 ton of SRM ammo. 3 is way to much for 2 srm6. Replace it with 1 more ton AC5 ammo.

I love Victors and I have them all. Here are the current builds in my stable:

Victor DS I copied off of Roughneck45 but with STD280, 2xAC5, 2xPPC, AMS, 2xJJ
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...904a904cd1ee660

In the past I had a DS with XL360, ERPPC, 2xAC5, 2xMLas, AMS, JJ.
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...406172e06c79f72

The Victor S is built as your typical jumpsniper with XL330, 2xuAC5, 2xPPC, 2xJJ.
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...12921496b0a82b3

The Victor K is with XL340, AC10, 2xLPuls, 2xJJ, AMS.
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...24e11c1dbdf206e

The Victor B is with STD300, AC20, 2xLLas, SRM6, AMS, 2xJJ.
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...a48166a384b1c15

Now I know that Roughneck45 has very good success with his DS build, I find it a hit or miss mech. Either I get 5 kills or I get caught out with nowhere to run. Do you guy (and of course including Roughneck) have any DS builds you can suggest? Since I have all the Victor chassis, I'd love to get a build that is uniquely DS, Prior to the Gauss mechanic nerf, I had an XL330 with ERPPC, Gauss, 2xLLas, and it was really great. With the new Gauss mechanic I find it much harder to use.

I intend the DS to be used for pugging and earning CB, not for comp drops -- I use the B or S for that.

Thanks in advance to your suggestions and build critique!

Just bought a DragonSlayer to increase C-Bill income. Was quite disappointed. This chassis is actually worse than the S-variant. No AC-20 in the right arm. Energy in right torso etc.

Finally went for AC10, 2x PPC and lots of jump jets which is ok but not more. To me the Victor appears like an undergunned Highlander with less armor - less durable, less powerful but more mobility and speed. What makes the Victor unique and especially how to play with the DS?

My favorite: VTR-Pryde

This is a really fun 'Mech to pilot. Given that there are no Clan Omnis yet, I thought I'd make the closest thing to my beloved Summoner C which would carry an ER LL, ER SL, SSRM-6, and a UAC/20.

As for stats I have,

I play with my Dragon Slayer often:

This is my current build:
VTR-DS-C1

Edit: I really enjoy this build but it feels underwhelming at times when fighting some enemy mechs but performs well when I pilot it in support of my team. The C1 is most effective in hit and run as well as assault support, the jump jets allow the pilot to keep the damage spread so learning how to jump snap shoot is essential once the brawl starts.

Unless you are really accurate over longer ranges the ER Large Laser can be swapped for a regular Large Laser, the range+heat tax you pay will not help you once heavier fighting begins. The range on the AC/10 and Large Laser are the same which makes it a nice combo to fire at once.

The medium pulse lasers are amazing at close range, be sure to employ them as much as your heat sinks will allow. One downside I have when playing this mech is that it does have the tendency to spread damage around a target mech too much if I am not careful in how I aim.

Weapon Groups:
1- (ER) Large Laser
2- AC/10
3- Medium Pulse Laser (2x)
4- SRM 6

A test short range build I will be toying with today to see how much I like or hate the Large Pulse Laser
VTR-DS-C2

Edit: Played with the VTR-DS-C2 this weekend and I have really enjoyed it, the LB-10x performs well enough at mid-short range to crit weapon systems after the pulse lasers strip the armor. Heat does not seem to be much of an issue.

With the C2 I hold myself back a bit, try to determine where the brawl is or how I can cover the distance to my next target. Fighting in the Crimson Straight works well since most of the battle takes place under 600 meters.

This mech excells at shredding armor, if I can push up on a mech I can dissolve the armor and start criting internals fairly quickly, like the C1 its a hit and run mech using the jump jets to engage and manuver in combat. The pulse lasers are very effective at dealing additional damage while jumping.

Weapon Groups:
1- Large Pulse Laser
2- LB-10x
3- Medium Pulse Laser (2x)
4- SRM 6

My Victor 9S is one of my top 3 most reliable builds (next to my Hunchback 4H and my Cicada X5).

XL 370
AC 20
SRM 4 x 3
Medium Laser x 2
2 or 3 JJ
Plenty of Ammo

It's fast, agile, and well armored with an extremely powerful payload. On average I get over 400 damage and have had a good portion over 600. Play it smart, know when to engage, know when to DISENGAGE, and don't chase the smaller ones (cause you'll want to with your speed, especially after tweak). It's got an XL and you can be side torso'd, though not most of the time. You have to keep moving and JJ whenever you're brawling to spread damage. The AC20 and SRM4 volleys allow you to look, shoot, and turn away while you reload to spread damage; don't constantly look at your opponent. SRM4's over 6's because 1) they reload faster, 2) they have a tighter spread, and 3) they generate considerably less heat. The Medium Lasers are for harassing and back up, but I typically avoid those in a brawl because they build heat.

You can remove a heat sink and/or some armor to get another Jump Jet in there (I will every now and then). Spread the armor however which way you like, I mix it up a lot but tend to heavily favor the front.

I came here to share the best build I've ever made, then I discovered that someone else had got already. Then I saw he's actual build and thought that it is still not as good as mine so anyways, here's my Victor-9B with 3 AC2s:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...cb16e717a0058d.

While it doesn't seem like much, it's really awesome. Pounded the hell out of some Jagermechs and Cataphracts.
The AC2s range is almost 2000 meters for max range, which means that I can hit almost anything, it’s almost 12 damage per second with just the ac2s firing, and shakes anyone's screen so much that they can't aim. The strategy that prevents overheating is just that I start firing with my weapon group 1, all three ac2s. Then when I am close to overheating I switch to group 2: chain fire ac2s. With the chain fire the heat goes up one percent and goes down one percent, so I never really have to stop firing. Group 3, the lasers, are just there in case someone destroyed my arm with the ac2s.

For the most part I keep to the walls and the covers, follow the big group, etc. Then when we engage in combat, I single out some guy that has heavy firepower or the long-ranged sniper and then keep pounding him so that his screen shake so much that he can't do anything to the rest of my team. I usually shoot his front when it gets up close because if I go to his back he'll just turn around to face me. I use my jumpjets for avoiding some damage in situations like this. I never lost unless someone else came along and helped my victim. If my ac arm is destroyed, I use my lasers and get real close for the effect of fear and so that his teammates will have trouble hitting him without hitting me.

Standard engine
DRAGON SLAYER

or XL
DRAGON SLAYER

The Gauss and ER LL's work quite well together because they are mounted on the same side, while the SRM's and Mlas give it an up close punch when needed. I think it is pretty unique build when compared to the other victors.

I own 3 Victors. With the XL I find it works best at medium range, flanking and picking off stragglers. My highest K/D is 1.48 in my 9B, but I've just purchased the DS and have been enjoying the set-up a lot. Took me a while to get it right!

1 x Gauss
1 x ER PPC
2 x MPL
2 Streak SRM's

3 kills in the first outing, love at first fight.

VTR-9B:
155 matches, 1.21 w/l, 1.88 k/d, 401 dmg/match

VTR-9K:
135 matches, 1.18 w/l, 1.60 k/d, 353 dmg/match

VTR-9S:
138 matches, 1.94 w/l, 1.91 k/d, 379 dmg/match

I tend to be the guy leading the push and play solo /PuG exclusivly so i tend to die a lot early in every other match when the herd decides halfway through the push that they'd rather hide /run back after all and i suddenly find myself alone with 6 enemy mechs and die a heroic (read: stupid) death after maybe a kill and 200 damage done :D.
Tried some 2x PPC + AC builds and did well with it but quickly got bored since standing back and jumpsniping simply doesn't fit my personality (or rather i am not patient enough to stand back and do the same thing for 8 minutes in each match). :)

I bought a DS last night after thinking about it since it was last on sale. It's hard to do a unique DS build since it is pretty much a 9K with two energy hard points move from the arm to the torso and bigger max engine. I toyed with ac10 builds, ac5 builds, and am currently running this and I like it a lot.

1xGauss 3 tons ammo
1xERPPC
2xERLlas

XL 330, only stripped a little armor off the legs. The gauss takes some getting used to but works well with all the ER energy weapons. Obviously this is a medium/long range mech but it's pretty fun, and the ERPPC doesn't suffer from min range so you don't lose any DPS up close. Stuffed as many DHS as I could to keep heat down.
