Performance, I expect it to be like a 5 ton lighter Quickdraw with no JJ, 3 variants (18, 19/19b, 20) and not sure what the Hero or scale will be.

I beg to differ. Looking at this concept I am super excited about the future of MWO. Mongoose, ftw!

Is this a way of making the medium mech more popular?
55 tons is the most populous weight category of the most populous size category. There are more 55 ton mechs in BT than any other weight type. Its the mean or benchmark for the franchise.
Given that PGI's revenue comes a lot from 'selling' mechs and their accessories, they certainly have both a creative and financial interest to make mediums more relevant again.

Kintaro wasn't meant to be Bushido looking. Just like the original much drawing, he is supposed to be round and cute looking.

Of course it is.
As I said BEFORE the alpha/beta launch, restrict the mechlab way ! more. e.g. swapping large lasers for the puls/er version as a max in customization. With all the upcoming battlemechs , there will be plenty to find the hardpoint selection you need to run your mech.

I know, it is far easier to design straight forms, especially because you can recycle so much stuff from earlier mechs. But it really makes me unexcited for most of the new mechs and in this case, with a mech that had so many round forms on the artworks, it is really inappropriate. I really feel if they were to release the Stalker and Catapult again, they would be blocks as well. Stop being so lazy!

I'd like to see more commonality with each mech the new
Has almost nothing in common with the tro art (which was
Fugly) but you could've made it more rounded just a tad bit
To make it more different from the rest.

Saw the concept art, was less excited. Pretty generic, lacking in the character that made early-ish Battletech mechs endearing. Workable, except...
Saw the in game model, was disappointed. Talk about dull. And probably going to be enormous to boot.
I think Alex is out of juice. At least for the moment. Time to let somebody else do the redesigns for a while and let the poor guy recharge.
They only have one person "Alex" modelling all the mechs? It all makes sense now.

Alex Iglecias does all the concept art for the mechs; the modeling is handled by a few other people. There's a good article about their design process for mechs out there somewhere.

However, Alex/FD also does the orthographic projections that the modeling team(s) use to create the in-game assets, in addition to the concept/promotional art - a point that was cited as one of the reasons behind the sudden appearance of the Quickdraw.

i just made the orthos for the quickdraw before the orthos for the orion, really thats it
(Note that the above-pictured ortho for the Dragon predates the change to the in-game model to reflect the presence of the Lower Arm Actuator that is shown on the BT Record Sheet.)
