I don't get why 1PV and 3PV can't compete against each other in the same games. A lot of FPS like BF2 had 3PV in vehicles. I just do not want them to split the player base into 2 different groups.

Cause the 3pv guys can see over hills that the 1pv guys can not. It adds increased situational awareness that the 1pv player does not have.

I want them to split it, I feel if they do not split the cues many will quit playing.

What about 3PV will be good:
-seeing my mech with its costume camo ingame and in action is a huge plus. I will feel more connected with my mechs.
-helps new players get in to the game without the first person view torso confusion
-many players enjoy 3PV and how it feels/looks in games which will provide an influx of new players in to mwo which in turn will provide better funding for pgi and more targets for us to shoot at ensuring the longevity and quality of the game

Ive already had 2 friends that were sort of meh about the game express interest in it after i showed them the test server 3PV vids and have yet to talk to anyone i play with that intends to rage quit over 3PV. Even the people (ones i play with) that were skeptical are starting to change their views on it (no pun intended).

For all the doomsayers and "i will quit if you do X" people. Honestly i think you should calm down and try to look at this from a different perspective (man these puns are just coming in all over the place...). If you dont like 3PV then dont use it, if you feel that its so detrimental to your gaming experience then just queue for the FPV only "hardcore" mode. Theres really no reason at all to be in arms against 3PV unless you are obsessed with making others play the way you personally feel the game should be played, which is just, well...wrong.

*edit* Also in response to some of the "hardcore" mech/battletech fans. Personally ive played every single mechwarrior and mechcommander game ever made, ive read all but 5 or 6 battletech books (skipped the one with bird aliens and a couple others that just didnt pull me in) and ive been in MWO since closed beta. And i personally think 3PV is a great addition to MWO. Good for me, good for most others and good for the game in general.

You are making up a straw man argument, you should not do that... Many of us are annoyed because we no longer trust the devs to keep their word about not mixing 3pv and 1pv, not because of some imagined control obsession you just invented.

If you are saying you are upset that PGI said there would be no 3PV and then went back on their word, then i agree, we should be upset. But in the end that is just how the world works. Things change, promises are broken. I do wish PGI did some kind of formal "i know we said this and we are sorry that we had to go back on our word" post, but at least they tried to explain why they think changing their mind on 3PV was an overall good thing for them and the players.

But in the end, PGI not keeping their word has nothing to do with 3PV being good or bad for the game. They are separate issues and should be treated as such.

3pv is to help with the new player experience, to let them see why their robot is running into a wall.

Unfortunately, PGI nerfed 3PV so badly in order to please the anti-3PV and compensative crowds that its pretty much unusable in helping new players.

From http://piranhagames.com

Found in MWO page "By placing the player in a first person view of a BattleMech pilot, MechWarrior Online provides a whole new level of immersion into the game space."

Compagny profile "Founded in 2000, we started out as an independent developer with extensive multi-platform and multiplayer experience, making FPS action games for big-name franchises. With AAA licensed titles such as Need for Speed: Undercover and Duke Nukem Forever"

How can you trust em after that? AAA title? DNF?(that my cack slap back to you, because my fuzzy bunny is hurting)

Guys, dont you see? No one in this thread has said anything close to, "I want 3pv because I am a new player and keep running into walls."

So many people are speaking for others and arguing about how it will be but PGI is the only party that wants this to "attempt" to grab more players. My whole point of this thread was to try to see how many people want 3pv for w/e reason. Those people just dont seem to exist. Dont let them pull the wool over your eyes, look at the bigger picture.

Lots of people defend the 3pv but do not necessarily want it or will use it. Stop! You are creating the image that lots of people want this. Only other thing that comes to mind is people defend 3pv without ever stating they want it because they are embarassed to say so? For a fear of being judged?

One in the hand is worth more than two in the bush.

It seems like more and more people lately have been talking about wanting a third person view. Why? It would definately no longer be a FPS-Simulation. I really cannot think of one reason I would want a 3pv in this game. It would lose all its realism! <_<
If you want a 3pv can you just go play something else plz? Ty.

If you define something as a FPS-simulation than it will not be a FPS-simulation with 3PV...

I would postulate that your (implicit) definition of realism those not fully take into account the issue of situational awareness - the field of view on a computer monitor does not "simulate" peripheral vision (even the Oculus Rift headset doesn't fill human field of vision at this time...) in any meaningful way and the rather deficient way in which supposedly three-dimensional space is rendered doesn't properly trick our brains into thinking that the buildings and landscape are real.
To use a more concrete example: if in "real life" you drive (same goes for walking, but this is quite obvious) over a bump or hole in the road and immediately slow down you "know" that the bump is just behind you. I would argue that on a computer 3rd person view is a viable way of simulating that kind of awareness.
If they implement 3PV I will check how it feels (I only played the 3PV they had a year ago) and maybe play some of the matches in this mode. Even if you do not like 3PV think about it this way - you can try evangelizing the players who will come to play 3PV and get more to play in 1PV.

Before the game was even released into closed beta I was lobbying for 3PV. I was concernd I wouldnt be able to play the game. As it turns out I can, but there are many like myself that normally wouldnt even try a game with FPV only.

they are making 3pv because it will attract more players..simple as that...

everything else is just bla blah....
it will help new players with the torso twist...not really in most cases you dont even see your legs or make out where your legs and torso are..
they will split the queues...maybe but nothing is certain with PGI. 3pv DOES give an distinct advantage and no one can deny this. you can see more and the more you see the better you are, no drone or lack of minimap can balance that. the introduction of the drone alone (as a means to balance the i can see you, you can see me situation) means that they is a good chance they will not split the queues.

i think 3pv is a very bad idea and it will break a lot of things...there is no way to really balance them, im afraid we are gonna end with a game where we will be constanlty flipping from 3pv to 1pv and thats just lame...

in any case...we will just have to live with it...or quit the game if turns out a mix of mechassault/mechwarrior/hawken. we will just have to wait and see

I understand not being a FPS player. I am not. I am just a MW fan of old. The only other game Ive played in recent years that has a FPV is Fallout 3/NV. The same reason, Fallout fan of old. I played MW and Fallout in FPV. Id be willing to bet there are more SC/Civ(strategy) fans playing this game compared to CoD/CS(fps).

I dont really get the furor; If they do it like they say their gonna do it here:
http://mwomercs.com/...095-3rd-person/

whats the problem? This sounds good

I think most people like me object for a few reasons.

1) It pretty much screwed mw4 to start, with being able to see what you couldn't normally see in 1pv it gave a big advantage

now your gonna say again what most people have said. you don't have to play it they said you can queue separately.

Yeah and at first PGI said MWO was 100% 1pv only and 3pv would break the games core design pillars. They also said in that same post that if 3pv came it would be for specific game modes only

Later when they first flubbed it and mentioned 3pv the ensuing riot had them come out and say hey we have no plans to implement 3pv we just want to see what it would take

Now we have 3pv coming, I've said many times the queue lines are pretty shallow already, face a lot of the same people over and over, will they risk even further queue line issues or just lump us all together and say deal with it like they have before?

PGI just twists words a lot.. I won't call it a lie but.. damn close

http://mwomercs.com/...rd-person-view/
http://mwomercs.com/...ew/page__st__60

edit: Also if you look further down the link you provided you can see Garth's second post to the guy asking for a poll about 3pv

"This thread is not about whether or not 3rd person should it exist. Rather, we want your feedback on how it should be implemented. Understand we're not debating the merits of having 3rd person or not."

I don't understand why PGI is so bullheaded with all it's decisions..

I don't get the people for it either, with all the advantages it offers that it shouldn't why do we need it in game? So you can see your mech?

As much as people rip on "CoD kiddies" I don't hear them crying they can't see their customized guy during gameplay..

Infact how many FPS games out there allow you to customize your character and never see them during gameplay?

keep 3pv to the training grounds..

as i said in my first post......this is splitting the queues..hardcore-easy mode two different queues. they may do this..or they may end up not doing it as i said. nothing is certian..the fact that they are trying to balance the two views suggest that they at least thinking of not splitting them. and if that happens we most likely end up using 3pv to spot enemies and turning to 1pv for better shooting...which if you ask me is a lame game mechanic...on one hand splitting the player base is a bad thing, on the other hand having seperate queues is most likely the only way to keep everyone happy....its a mess.

That would be true if they lowered the camera view, most mechs Ive seen in screenies you cant see the legs. How does that help this?

Granted it wouldnt be perfect but there is still far more awareness in 3PV than in the cockpit view. Easier to see in which direction your mech is going and facing. I was never that good at piloting light mechs (mostly because i never really bothered to work on getting good at it) but on the test i found piloting a Jenner much easier in 3PV. Targeting was a bit harder in 3PV though, but thats probably mostly due to just being used to FPV in mwo.

3PV wont bring CoD players to MWO,because the CoD "killer" is called Hawken.

MWO is suppose to be a simulation and the CoD players wont even be attracked to this type of slow game,in a stupid attent to please everyone PGI fuzzy bunny on their own fanbase. Way to go!

Remember what Russ says? Calling all MW fan and a year late "we want to please the Cod player" ....wtf?
