in an attempt to maintain my 95% of all posts in Fanart rating, thought I better throw something together.

TBH, this is a quick sketch I did while playing MW: Tactics, and the basic shape was inspired by their take on the CLINT, which actually ain't too bad. As my AC2 2 medium laser, 2 MG variant was hoping around the battlefield, I thought "This thing kinda looks like a PHX........"

So while dismantling my clumsy ground bound opponent, I pulled out my scratch pad for a few notes, which are these.

Don't have time to clean them up right now, but thought it be a good time to get your input.

concept rough 2 while I try to settle my head dilemma.

It's a bit too rough to get a good idea right now, but I'd do away with the X-plates on the chest. That is unless you have blast panels on the front for some reason. The outline looks good and seems to show off the original Macross design origin. The long head antennae makes me think more of the Wasp and Stinger than the Phoenix Hawk.

I like where it seems to be going..

I thought you had two head concepts there for a minute.. a dark one and a light one, but the "light" one is just the jet-pack thingy on the right shoulder.. correct?

correct.

Also note to Hana, those are just placeholders. I was thinking of INtakes there, TBH. But need somethign to break up the lines.

Any thoughts on the below fist large laser, or the less canon (but IMO, cooler looking) hand replacement large laser?

Filling space for the concept makes sense. As for the arm laser, try drawing out detailed versions of both. Is the right hand a key part of the Phoenix Hawk design? If so then keep it. If not, go for an arm without the hand.

I like where this is going. The left model with no hand on the large laser side I like best. I think that will give you an extra point of departure from the original. The big jump jet intakes are a must! Perhaps a little more bulbousness to the head? I hesitate to recommend Quickdraw levels of roundness, but you need somewhere to put all that comm gear.

What image or version of the Phoenix Hawk are you basing it off of? It lacks the head that looks like a visored helmet that seem to appear on most images of the Phoenix Hawk.

no, you just can't see it clearly. It actually has a more "visored" look. And as noted, this is largely my own interpretation, because the original is off limits anyhow.

Ah right, forgot for a moment that it's still unseen. :P

bump for additional concept piece.

Also, am considering using v1 as basis for a Stinger, with it's primitive clunkiness, whereas the PHX always makes me think more advanced SLDF, so wanted to give it a more high tech pedigree look, hence 2.0

Bishop! Great work as always I'm delighted by every submission you make.

But, I'm gonna be a d-bag on this one and actually provide some critique for the sake of aligning your vision (read: my vision) of the PHX into MWO.

1st design: Head looks like you got some Hunchback in my Grasshopper.

2nd design: Like the head better and overall design. The splayed legs though, are definitely MACROSS and not Mechwarrior. I'd like to see legs closer to panel 1 on mech 2.

And to retain a bit of PHX flavor, on the 2nd head, maybe a couple of wings/fins off the side of the head. So, original look is maintained while still keeping some of the original we all know and love.

have ya seen the child bearing hips on all the mechs here in MW:O? The only difference is mine has slightly less thunder thighs (which is funny since baby got back, lol)

Upon reexamination I really dig what you have done in mech design 2. The chest / groin area look like you took the original "cockpit" folddown piece from Macross Valkyrie and actually split it in two. So, you retain the PhoenixHawk/Valkyrie look without it being having that obvious F-14 Tomcat trademark look. Whether intentional or not, very deft way of handling it.

yeah..the basic original take was to simply remove the bubble canopy, and it did a lot tio seperate the obvious connection (and allow for an articulated waist, something anime tends to overlook, lol)

Yes, I think the V.1 would make an excellent Stinger. The upgrade to V.2 definitely looks heavier and meaner. The cockpit looks good, but needs some antenna. Chest looks great! The arms have a nice bump out past the elbow. But yeah, reduce that leg splay a bit; this is a family game!
