Personally, I'd rather have had half (or less) the number of models if the quality was higher, but that may just be me...

Yeah, it may just be you or some people. I myself am among those people who appreciate bigger variety of figures to start with and don't mind it bein' at the expense of the quality of those figs as long as they look the part.

I myself will gladly use'em even if I have bought iron wind metal versions of those, 'cos you inevidably end up usin' more than one of the same mech in a scenario and its good to have an option like that rather than proxy up some other mech... especially if you run out of mechs that would look anywhere similar enough to the one you need to proxy up. XD

Anyone else thinkin' about that part bein' appreciatable? or ran into that situation?

Once I had three Grasshoppers in a Recon mission, had to delegate a couple of other mechs for it.

How do you get 3 identical mechs on the same mission?

Or are you simply a big fan? :P

Yeah - I can be my own worst enemy - too fussy by half...

The plastic multi piece THOR and LOKI from the set are very nice. Wish they would make the rest of the Mechs available in the same format.

This. So much this.

As much as people like to bad mouth WizKids and Dark Age/AoD, at least they did some decent 'Mech sculpts. The best sculpts for BattleTech, IMHO, are those of the original 3050 Clan 'Mechs. And even they're not that good. And favorite mini company? This.

Thor and the Loki do look very nice ;) How is their quality compared to the metal models?

In terms of sculpt quality they are at the top end of all (Classic)BattleTech mini's in my opinion - inc metals.

Thor and Loki from the starter set are the back rank of this pic.

Posted Image

They are a little bit bigger than the metal ones...I'd say they look more the size of an assault mech when compared with the other mechs. But scale has always been a little off across all the models.

EDIT: found the other pic I had of them...Lined up with the Assaults so you can see what I'm talking about scale wise.

Hope you guys can help me abit here... Starter set arrived but some of the mechs are in some pretty bad shape...

I might be able to salvage them but it will always be visible and im not quite sure I can pull it off...
Jenner is snapped off at the ankles. Grasshopper has some missing details, holes and a damaged arm.
Another mech (cant recall the name) is also pretty damaged and has a very tiny base... its like 2mm's thick...
Catapult is missing the details on its missle rack.

Some others have some missing details or warped details, might be able to salvage that.

Should I try fixing the mechs first or should I just use that link posted earlier to ask for replacements right away? Do I need to send them some pictures?

My catapult was like that. The cicada was put together wrong. Not a whole lot you can about missing details, but you might be able fix the Jenner with putty and some glue.

You will be presently surprised by how much better they look once the mold lines are removed and you paint them. Even a coat of primer will change the whole appearance.

Hope you aren't too bummed out.

Not sure about the replacements details. Try the link for the Jenner.
The Catapult missile bays were bad for mine as well, so I lopped them off and made it a Catapult-K2

Following was pulled from the Painting the starter set thread....

Some better Shots of the Starter Minis that I painted up.

The plastic makes them easier to modify...Thus the Catapult K2, and the Vindicator 5L

If you've got busted minis in the box set, or related issues, this link may help.

Yea I used that link already, I think it was on page 1 or 2 already. But thanks ;)

Ended up asking them to send 6 or 7 mechs, cant recall the exact number. Did a recount and noticed my commando was missing :D

Kinda feel bad about asking them to send new models but some of them are broken or missing parts... They set up the service for a reason I guess.... One of the premium mechs is assembled and the other needs to be constructed, is it always like that? Thought you had to assemble both?

Speaking of the premium mechs... AMAZING quality. Gorgious models! :P all the reading material is a god send to! Guess il be busy till the open beta arrives :)

Nope, that's how they're supposed to come.

Should enhance the fun though; most of the 'Mechs in MWO will have additional meaning for you.

So I'm thinking about getting into the TT game. I've always wanted to be a part of it and the review posted from the great people here in this forum it seems like I'd really enjoy it (I play...played I guess now WH40K, but the rules and game play leave a lot to be desired for me =/ ).

I've found the introductory box set on Amazon but I was wondering, is there a complete list of all the 'Mechs included in the box set and also are there any other good places to buy it from?

Thanks :D

Here is the list...(posted images of them all in earlier posts of this thread).
  • SDR-5V Spider
  • ASN-21 Assassin
  • CDA-2A Cicada
  • CLNT-2-3T Clint
  • COM-2D Commando
  • JR7-D Jenner
  • HER-2S Hermes II
  • QKD-4G Quickdraw
  • GHR-5H Grasshopper
  • ENF-4R Enforcer
  • DRG-1N Dragon
  • WTH-1 Whitworth
  • TBT-5N Trebuchet
  • DV-6M Dervish
  • CPLT-C1 Catapult
  • PNT-9R Panther
  • VND-R1 Vindicator
  • JM6-S JagerMech
  • ZEU-6S Zeus
  • AWS-8Q Awesome
  • BNC-3E Banshee
  • HBK-4G Hunchback
  • CP-10-Z Cyclops
  • AS7-D Atlas
  • Loki
  • Thor
As for where to buy it from. Friendly Local Game store would be my best advice. See if they have it if not see if they can order it for you. Yah might pay a few dollars more...but you will have better luck finding other B-Tech players there than you will from Amazon.

I would either email them or i believe there is a thread on the battletech forum dedicated to issues with the minis
