I shot an enemy mech with my LL and then he walked around a corner and died. I received credit for the kill. It was a good 3 or 4 seconds after he walked around the corner that he died. Is this a glitch or just lag do you think?

My guess would be data transfer lag.

Ammo explosion is the game mechanic that matches this perfectly, I would not go look further unless some really good reasons to suspect something else. Or if you simply like to do things with a tinfoil hat on your head.

Ammo or Gauss Rifle explosion.
When the Gauss Rifle is destroyed in my Catapult-K2, Betty will calmly tell me "Gauss Rifle Destroyed", after which I can still stomp around for a few seconds and maybe even fire one more shot before the gauss rifle actually blows up and kills me via XL Engine destruction.

since they removed exploding ammo animations, its hard to know if you killed them by ammo explosion, or that last tick of damage by your LL.
Back in CB, when your ammo cooked off, it was like the 4th of july, both in your cockpit (if it was you) or on the mech you just shot.
Ahh..Fun times.

I must have came into closed beta too late for that. Would be nice to see things like that return though. To me the little touchs are what makes a game fun.
