Everybody needs to realize that this game, if it ever gets "made," will be available, at the earliest, late-2012. It's success, or even creation, is dependent upon a currently hopeful (and small) player base. The developer is fishing now so I suggest taking the bait lightly. I do advise, though, telling all of your friends and have them do the same.

To be honest, I was kinda disappointed when the idea for the initial re-work circa 2009 popped. Although the story would have been amazing, it didn't seem to be utilizing the benefits of the modern era. Now you guys are going to be running this as an MMO I'm delighted, and reading your post in a state of awed shock. I truly hope development of the game does not only include the mechs, but also jumpships, dropships and factional alignment for player retention and clan/company development, but either way I'm going to get this.

Please update again soon, we're all waiting with baited breath.

Cheers,
Elms

Good luck with this endeavour Mr Jordan Weisman & Piranha!

As a long, long time fan of FASA and the Battletech franchise (way back to when BT was called Battledroids!) I can't be more excited about this project. A MMO model for a Mechwarrior game is a perfect fit for the universe. I mean the warding houses and clans are screaming MMO!

All the best.

I have been waiting so long for this game. I was horrified when xbox brought out their "version" beacuse it was more arcade based with powerups and the ds version i found for my son was HORRENDOUS. I felt horrible because a proper version was never bought out. then i heard about the legal trouble and now I hear that i can polish off my coolant vest and take on some fans again i'm totally thrilled I'd wait as long as i could for a good version

That warhammer legal deal was silly, Warhammer artwork was on the Battledroids box in 1982 way before robotech even dreamed of the destroid warhawk! :)

I'm really excited for what this could bring. I've been a big fan of the mechwarrior games ever since I was a little kid tromping around in wireframe mode in Mechwarrior 2 and really felt disappointed when I got my hands on mechassault a few years back. Admittedly, I got distracted by other things between Mechwarrior 4 and then, but I'd really like to see the series come back to its roots. From the videos you've put you you guys feel the same way. I can't wait to see how you handle a lot of the ideas that more modern FPS have been presenting and how you plan on implementing them into gameplay.

I can't believe the day is finally approaching that I will be able to pilot my very own Mech again.

I got hooked on MW4 when I was in high school and was a very active player and involved in the clans. There just wasn't (and still hasn't been since then) any other game quite like Mechwarrior. The simulator aspect of the game is what really held my interest. The fact that you had to manage your heat levels, wait for ammunition to cycle, control your jump-jets... just everything about it was amazing. I definitely understand the need to address the circle-strafing and long range sniping issues, but that was a fun part of the game nonetheless. I think to completely drop the large, open area maps would be dishonoring the authentic feel of MW4.

I hope you guys keep up the good work and post a lot of media as soon as it's ready. I have been waiting many years to get my hands on new MW info. :D

P.S. If anyone reading this was part of the MW4 clan called Crimson Knights, this is CrK_ShadowMech. Remember me? :) Let's get it going again.

1 Burning question springs to mind (and i'm sorry, i've not read all 200+ posts)

TO THE DEV'S AND LEGAL TEAM.

"the big twelve"

when you picked up the IP rights ( FASA -> whizkids -> etc) did you check out any potential issues that might arise in reguards to the origional twelve mechs from the origional game ? ( the whole macross issue)

to itterate;- when the Board game was released back in the early 1980's FASA used some manga images as the basis for the 12 origional mech's, and there have been legal issues in the past.

have these issues been resolved ? will it be possible to drive a locust, stinger, wasp, battlemaster, etc before we all run off to buy madcats/timber wolf's ?

because i really do hope so :)

(lot of good comments about "oh i remember playing it on this console or that" ...
hehe, i still have my old boxed set, tech books, mapboards and mech board figures packed in a box in the loft... )

you think thats bad... chap i wargamed with decades ago.. i asked him how many mech models he had ...the reply was " two of everything, and four if it's House Stiener"

I only found out about MechWarrior when we got MW2 free with our old windows 98 computer. then a few years later my bro downloaded MW3 and i loved that even more. but once we got Pirates Moon and MW4 we started finding all the novels avalible to be downloaded. once i heard MW4 Mercs was a F2P, i thought it would be **** but it turned out pretty well.

i just hope the manage to pull of the same exiting gameplay with MWO....

when i heard MWO had been announced i registered straight away, (think i was in the first 100) i started organising all my friends to join as well, then i heard it would be relesed in 2012 and i almost died, i have to wait all this time.... :) Hurry up summer.....

I played the **** out of the original Mechwarrior when it first came out. I loved going around to the different star systems/houses looking for contracts and annoying Kurita and Liao (they stiffed me a couple of times). If MWO is anything like that and MW2:Mercenaries, I will be a very happy person. :)

I know i loved the drops with my 95th buddies and we have ALL missed a Mechwarrior multiplayer game.

If this comes to fruition, it will be the most exciting thing to have happened to my computer for a long long time! :-)

Man, I really hope this game does work out. I have Mechwarrior on MekTek as well as the disks for 4 and Mercs 4 with Black Knight expansion. Played 2 on a Sega Saturn my friend had when I was a kid. Always enjoyed these games. I only wish that the Earthsige series had continued as well, as a true mech style sim like the first two before it became Starsige and Tribes. The competition might have helped keep the series' coming out with new titles faster with more innovation sooner. I just love giant walking robots with guns. I can't wait to kill some of you guys or die trying!

*I noticed some people discussing Mechassault after reading some more. I really liked that game too. It was a lighter version of a sim, with the simplified controls and lack of options. It lacked no amount of action, and could at times be just as intense as a full Mechwarrior battle. The graphics were great. It was also much easier to just sit down and jump right into. Say what you may about it not being a true sim, it was a great game none the less. I also loved that the controls were simple enough to allow me to easily dominate an Atlas or two or three with nothing more than an elemental.
