Greetings all,
Reference the city and urban battle area.
Within the Canon and storyline of this universe there were many treaties and conventions that specifically condemned or forbid fighting in populated areas. The reasoning behind this was that if the area was contested, killing or damaging the population or infrastructure would be counter productive even if you "won" the area. The caveat here would be if you "Really" wanted to remove or discourage further expansion, but that would normally not be for a city sized area.
Now fighting within an abandoned or evacuated city may be a different beast, fighting for control of a "newly found" Star League facility cash may be a option. This would allow for factory and infrastructure buildings to be "contested" on site, and requiring elements to try not to destroy what your fighting for. Inner city fighting would normally be contested by Mech's within the Light, Medium, and Heavy class's, reserving Assaults for only the "most difficult" locations. The larger the Mech the more difficult it would be to navigate some areas within the cities and ambush's from narrow flanking streets were a common concern for slow moving Mechs. (not all cities were designed for large Mechs to freely walk around.)
This is why in most all stories the battles for specific areas are fought away from the "Prize". And why key installations were normally located at the outskirts of built up areas. (ie; Power-plants, water-treatment, large Aero and Landing zones, Industrial factories and facilities.)
Star League protected planets and cities or important areas would normally have some Military installation near them.
History:
The SLDF had thousands of military bases and supply depots spread throughout known space; each inhabited world was home to at least one of these installations. Of special importance were those installations built along three defensive rings designed to protect Terra. The first, known as the Home Circle, was built along the border of the Terran Hegemony. The second was built 250 light years from Terran, while the third was built 500 light years from Terran, along the border between the Inner Sphere and the Periphery. Bases along the third ring were the largest and best defended, and more evenly distributed, and most major bases along the defensive rings were home to divisions or major fleets.
Besides the well-known installations, hundreds, potentially thousands, of secret bases were also constructed. SLDF engineers went to great lengths to construct these hidden bases: leveling mountains, draining lakes, building islands in the middle of oceans, and camouflaging their work when construction was complete. Such was their skill that many of these installations have yet to be found, and while most were emptied prior to Operation Exodus some still contain examples of lostech.
End history.
Yes the idea of a city brawl may be something to look at in the future, although we do have something along those lines with "Frozen City" and "River City". Both have city type area locations and the fighting can be quite intense from street to street, having the Developers spend design and resource time working on this now may not be the best bang for our buck. Developing better use of the existing maps and defining reasons to fight there may require less time and money. Simply laying out a city pattern is not how the design state works for gamming play.
Just for the example of what goes into creating a map refer to this article:

Many artists, game and design engineers involved. And remember we still have 3 maps in development at this time, any of which may have built up area locations.
All for now,
