What's funny is that his concern over people sitting down to play then walking away in seconds because they didn't understand how mechs moved could be addressed in a 5min training scenario.

Or even just an option to lock your legs to your torso like the Virtual World pods had.....

It's not rocket science, pgi just makes it look like it is.

Edit: Lawl@ "Put in third person camera they will instantly get it". How about put in a 20 second B.itchin' Betty voice over that explains torso movement so they will instantly get it?

"Your mech moves like a tank. Your mouse controls your mech's torso while the WASD keys control the legs. If you get confused the C key will center your torso to your legs."

Just something like that.

Radical never before done idea....

Make it stop.

"the current MechWarrior community is amazing but if you and I want to be player MWO 2,3,4 even 7+ years from now with a continually growing overarching community warfare ( the kind that would fulfill all of our MechWarrior dreams of years past )"

Those years would be 2011, 2012.....rapidly becoming the dreams of 2013 past.

"We need to train an entirely new generation of MechWarrior players. Hey it’s an option! J play first person and do what you can help those noobies learn the ropes and eventually join you in playing first person as a great pilot in MWO."

Tutorials are hard. Please do our job.

It's a perfectly valid reason to have third person view. If it smooths the learning curve, it's a good idea. The important point is that it should not harm hardcore play.

Given how 3PV actually has disadvantages, and is actually shown as a sensor system rather than a magical cheating camera, I think it is a rather good implementation. First person view remains fully relevant, and has its own advantages over 3PV.

Now, I personally think 3PV was also implemented to attract the gamers who prefer 3PV in the first place, and I would have liked it that had been acknowledged.

But overall, I think the rage against 3PV is much overblown. MWO is not a simulator, and most mechwarrior games have had 3PV already, so it's nothing surprising. The difference is 3PV seems to be much better implemented in this game, with visual cues and clear disadvantages to driving in 3PV.

Yup.

That's the word of mouth advertising that they should expect when making the kind of decisions they have been making.

I'm fairly certain they said only the testing grounds is going to receive a third person mode. Has this changed?

lol love all the "Im so glad I quit" - werent they hoping this would bring people BACK?

Choice quotes from comments section...

3rd person was never about bringing people back. It was about getting the people who wouldn't touch it because it wasn't a simplistic arcade shooter that they could learn within the five minutes they could spare to spend looking at the game at a crowded convention like E3 or GDC.

And also to be fair, if you look at the history of some of those people you quoted, you would see that (like any game forum) some of those people don't like ANY game Massively posts about, or have like one favorite and take a dump on everything that isn't their favorite thing.

I am so so glad that PGI listen to other sources then our 5% that actively roam making comments. You see this in every market. I am sure that 3PV will be fine and will keep this game in the black for a lot longer then it would without. The whole idea is to appeal to as large of a market as you can and like it or not but we have an entire generation that have grown up with 3PS games.

Now that said i´l stick to my FPS mode as it helps me aim and there are a lot of modules to compensate for any perceived advantage of 3PV so i shrug my shoulders and welcome our 3PV brothers.

Yeah, because all the best and most player retaining competitive shooters are 3rd person, right?

Like... uh...

When third person view is implemented, and the mwo universe doesn't explode into flames and die, there will be so many I told you threads. One will be mine. I can't wait. What's the point of putting two cool looking uac5s on my mech, if I can't see them unless I'm in my garage. I'd prefer just FPV, with a key we could press that gives a 3rd person view camera pan round my mech. But more than that, I'd like this game to have a large and growing community. As such, I welcome the impending implementation of 3rd person view in MWO. If you cared about the longevity of MWO, you would too.

Well, I dried it, you won't see much. Competitive gaming in MWO will be in HARDCORE mode, though.
3rd PV will not harm this game. Its a good tool for new players, which helps us old Hands, getting faster and better trained reinforcements  into this.

I love this "gives new people".
It gives experienced players who want to farm new people an extra advantage.
New players will always be clueless to a certain extent.

but ye 3rd person view is incoming, so we shall see

Indeed, those sarcastic posts of negative people who don't seem to like anything in this world, I wonder what's up with that.

No. They should listen to the active players, people who are paying their jobs, people who love the game and know it to their roots. Players who even go to the lengths of playtesting the game for PGI, finding bugs, posting around in Youtube and sending reports about it to support. Those are helping the game, not foreigner CoD, WoT players who want their game in MWO instead of playing something different, a thinking man's shooter.
Listening to those crowds will just water down the game, making it a generic shooter. We already have plenty of those around.

May your words be blessed. I am one of those not bothered by 3rd person, I will play 1st person only, but really, 3rd person needs more drawbacks, those viewing angles aren't fair.

Those camera drones give your viewing angle away

Yeah, so you potentially see not only where the whole enemy team is but what directions they are facing, while they see a flashing light above a hill.

That totally counters the ability to look over and around cover and the huge increase in FoV and situational awareness!

Given that we haven't had to use the Public Testing server the last two weeks... I can assume the 3PV testing on the server was "sufficient" for PGI (yes, 4 hours is "sufficient" apparently) and other than the awful bug that plagues the mode (fast mechs causes camera problem), it will be the same as some of us last recall.

I guess, it's time for abuse in the next patch!

Waaaaaaaa, my ****** hurts. I'm hardcore so I'm never gonna play MWO if they give a 3PV option. I'm shutting off my account right now and never coming back. You guys are so full of **** its coming out of your ears. It's happening, so deal with it and move on. You've beat this dead horse long enough.
