The matches i dropped into with you in them yesterday ended in stomps... (sometimes i just can't catch a break when grinding my poor BJ's)

More or less 20% of my games ended in stomps, however the rest were generally either close matches or decisive upsets like you mentioned. (i don't know how but one match on forest colony my team was winning 8 to 5 but were somehow over taken, we ended up losing in a 9 to 12 defeat... it was a real upset)

That was yesterday... I was having a lot of fun in My Jenner (S). Stomped or not you will remember I was laughing even after dying in all 3 matches with only 90+ damage done.

whats your bj loadouts? Xl both and put a AC/20 3med lasers with three tons ac ammo in the X (I think) endo and DHS. The lasers go 9 small pulse and run like hell!!! I took mine in 12v12 and still killed in my ac20one. Things a rockstar.

I was driving a piece of junk, i had previously spent most of my earning on the quickdraw family(i really like the design of the mech, though they are enormous to be sure) so i didn't have much in terms of engine budget... i basically ran 50 games yesterday in This. That insufferable death trap was still fun somehow, i don't know why but for whatever reason lag or hit registration was on my side because in most matchs i would hide behind the assault mechs blasting anything i could see in the CT repeatly until they started firing back at me... which is probably why i did so good.

I would literally just fire my peashooter at enemy ppc snipers the whole time distracting them from shooting our assaults, i would purposefully run out into the open to distract all longrange mechs on the oppsite team and when they gave away their positions by firing at me i just stood behind the nearest missle boat or atlai and continued to rain Uac/5 rounds into them. I was esentially worthless on the front-line, i sat back and just pelted everything at range.

The best part about the whole thing was probably the resulting brawls with lightmechs that ensued, because i would hide behind missleboats all the time of course light mechs would come and harrass them, since my engine was god awful and there is literally no way to out run anything going 64kph i devoted all my effort into positioning and accuracy. Let me tell you when a jenner yells hacks at you because you can accurately ML their ct off, you know you are doing something right.

(in most cases i was a pure detriment to my team, but because i am a natural strategist and a mid-line fighter, i managed to help my team far more than random pugs would even percive)

See, this is a great post. I love how, even though you knew you are at a mech disadvantage, found ways to make it fun and still contributed. You took your natural strengths and made the enemy pay for their carelessness. I wish I had more people like you on my team (or even on the other team).

And no, you are not a detriment if that is your game. Strategists are needed just as much as the pure warrior.

That is entirely because now the only 'viable' tactic to win the game is to pound it out with capping being so horribly slow.

There is no reason to do anything but blob up and slug it out now. No reason for any real tactics.

Yes there are a fair amount of one sided matches, but this isn't happening any more than it already did in 8v8.

From my perspective 12v12 helps somewhat to prevent a complete crushing. For example if a couple of noobs manage to die in their Assault mechs within the first 2 minutes there is less impact on the remaining unit of competent players than there would be in an 8v8.

Also in a 12 v 12 situation when one side gains the advantage, pockets of resistance are able to form more readily given the outnumbered side plays defensively. This is because the winning side is less able to bring all its mechs to bear on a tight area in order to press their advantage.

It's not just 12vs12 that's making these rolls happen this morning

I had a stalker his tag was locked on and he had his lasers linked to just auto-fire until he overheated.

Arm-lock is making a huge weapon convergence issue. I watched one guy get cored by a arm-lock guy every beam had near perfect convergence on the CT.

The smaller maps like River City and Forest Colony way to small for 12vs12 the frame rate on a i5 game computer is down to 9-10 frames per second, and my ping is up from 40 to 70 on small maps with a few random spike disconnects. I'm also rubberband now when your playing a light going 137kph, and you rubberband into a wall its not fun.

So it pretty fubar right now. All I can say is hang in there and hope it gets better.

These dev. are raw rookies who never made a 1st person shooter before. Their cutting corners on testing left, and right to make the October 15th deadline had they done 12 vs. 8 testing in house I think they would held off on 12 vs. 12.

That deadline is 2 months away. We haven't seen any split up into factions, the dev. are short on maps for community warfare. In game timeline going to need to be rolled back because Clans are not ready. Their having issues still with weapon balance. Mech design is behind schedule the Flea and Orion were put on hold.

Its a huge mess right now not enough positives to out way the negatives. They really need to get organized if they want to be a top 20 game by Christmas.

Yeah they did. It was Duke Nukem Forever.

Oh i could tell you were having fun, so was i... well most of the time anyway, but this one match i had...... yeah f#*k that match, i mentioned it in one of the games i played with you. (i don't even wanna talk about how god awful that one match was, it never happened in my book)

Oh there were games where i could literally do nothing, my tactics were useless against the amount of accurate sniper fire and inept new players that i was with. (my teammates could either drive or shoot, but not both, that level of mismatch... of course that was the one match that shall not be named)

You have no idea how much i appreciate the sentiment with the kind of vitrol i put up with in most pug matches.

rolls: one team is wiped out, other team takes 4 or less casualties. It didn't happen too often in 8v8, but in now it happens all the time. The game is decided a full 10 min before it comes to a conclusion. The best part is that we are lucky to break 100k cbills, even on a win.

Here's the issue. PGI doesn't really understand how Mech battles play out in the "real world" of freely chosen tactics. They have only their imaginations to guide them and their imaginations are wrong. So they've made a bunch of poor decisions that have inadvertantly screwed up some aspect of combat, which they are unaware of.

Map size and design is one of those things. On a large map with suitable terrain (not the movement funneling paths you have now) you would be able to spread out, various Mechs could fulfil their design roles and combat would be more of an ongoing skirmish as everyone has room to move. The current appaling map design forces everyone into close range Mech blobs which then have to slug it out with no chance to maneuver or reposition.

In such a scenario as that, wipeouts are common. The first side to gain the advantage, whether that be structural such as better weapons or mechs, or tactical, such as better positioning or fire concentrations, will cause an imbalance where they inflict more damage than they receive. That initially small imbalance pretty soon becomes massive with the disadvantaged side torn to shreds at increasing speed. That's not a flaw in combat, that's a normal result.

The flaw is the poor game/map design forcing that kind of combat.

In a free flowing battle of movement and tactics, games can see-saw. In a point blank slugging match, the team that arrives at the kill zone with the advantage, keeps it. If you want to see something other than rolls, ask PGI to give you a game that makes the alternatives practical.

I feel that 12v12 is too crowded for the smaller maps, I liked it better on the larger maps which gives room to spread the lances out, room to breath.

If they can bring back 8v8 for the smaller maps like River City and such and keep 12v12 for the large scale maps I think that would be better.

I would have to disagree.

Maybe it's an ELO thing, I dunno. But I'm loving 12v12, seeing maybe 30% rolls, but 50% end with less than 4 mechs standing at the end.

And I find my teammates usually intelligent and responsive. Especially light mech buddies :)

I don't think it's Elo, I think it's just confirmation bias. People focus and remember the negatives more.

Because I certainly have similar experiences as you. I haven't had 1 truly bad match sin 12v12 kicked in. I've had games where we lost due to cap, or I won a fight only to realize half the team got stomped elsewhere, but in the end every match had some great fighting. 12v12 really revitalized the game.

See, that's the thing though. I hated 12v12 in the test servers. It really was a blob fest, and the only way I had much fun was by blobbing and sniping. I did not enjoy it, and was dreading the removal of 8v8.

Contrast that with now, where I'm kicking *** in my brawling atlases that have been gathering dust for months (in flanking maneuvers with my lance... yes, gasp you should). Also loving my blackjack (400-500 damage every game).

I don't see lopsided wins any more or less than when it was 8vs8. Seems about the same to me.
