The Clans do have a monetary system. Internal within a single Clan they use work credits and trade with the those outside of their Clan they use the KE (K-Bill).

Yes, Clanners use KE for day-to-day purchases just like IS pilots use House currencies for day-to-day purchases, but in MW:O we don't deal with the daily grind. We pilot 'mechs and they are assigned to Clanners with sufficient Honor, not sufficient KE.

If we were worried about the procurement/purchase of raw materials KE would make sense, but we're not.

It makes sense to use for purchasing new mechs and upgrading those mechs. Honor just doesn't cover that.

Since 'mechs weren't available for "purchase" to Clan pilots at all, and were instead awarded based on rank and honor, it does make sense. Just make honor a fungable currency for game purposes and you have nearly identical system which can include gameplay incentive/disincentive to push players to behave "clan like". KE is just money, so Clanners will just have better tech and no special incentives.

We don't pay for rearm & repair anymore (thank god) so it does work. Everything else in the mechbay could cost honor. Hell, even repairs could.

You want to keep recoloring your mech? well the other clanners thinks you're odd so you honor takes a minor hit.
You lost both arms and 80% of the rest of your mech in the last battle? well, that's pretty lame and your honor takes a hit.

If you had read the first post fully, that mech maintenance is there to help build the economy.
