And yet, they are explicitly described as 20mm cannons.
Smaller than the Gau-8's 30mm, but still a respectable anti-material round.

cannons, mg's. two totally different animals. However, as I said this is non cannon so pgi can stuff whatever round they want in for mg's.

Uh huh. Riiiiiight. That DU round from the GAU-8 Avenger would be closer to what the AC/2 would fire. However, this is after all non cannon and PGI is well within their rights to take something and blow it totally out of proportion lol.

This is a 50 cal http://www.fas.org/m...cal-dvic552.jpg dose that look like its half a ton? Look at size of a MG on a mech its bigger then a car for god sakes. And yes in TT MG do 2 dps but at shorter ranges so yes they do as much damage as a AC 2. So like I siad WRONG WRONG WRONG.http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Machine_Gun
Note damage 2 note 20 mm canons.

The guys who wrote TT weren't exactly technically knowledgeable.
The main difference between an MG and a Cannon (IIRC) is if the feed/firing mechanism is motorized or recoil operated.

If they somehow, magically, upsized an MG to 20mm while still being recoil operated, it'd be a 20mm MG, and the only difference to the guy being shot between it and a 20mm Cannon would be academic.

Um, the simple answer to your statement is: Nope.

A Battle Tech 12.7mm or .50 caliber is this: http://www.sarna.net...Battle_Armor%29 Man Portable Gun simply termed "Support Machine Guns." The Mech "MG" is a class of weapons that are 20-30mm that damages Mech armor.

A Battle Tech Mech Machine Gun (NON-Man Portable) weighs half a ton and does the same damage as Autocannon/2 in Battle Tech. All you have to do is look at the size of your cockpit and the concept art and realize how small your guy is in comparison to the guns attached. The Mech MG is enormous in comparison to the guy sitting in your cockpit.

Brilliant explaination! However while you were analizing the situation, and promptly rectumfied a solution, you must realize, Battletech is one word :D Sorry I couldn't resist :)

Every time somebody says Battlemech Machine Guns are anti-infantry or 50 caliber, Kerensky kills a kitten.

Doesn't matter.
1/3 of the people hate MGs.
1/3 of the people don't care
1/3 of the people love 'em

no matter what people will be unhappy.

MG dont do armor damage so its right to do extra internal damage. I've noticed that people cry about everything nowdays. QQ all over the forum about things that dont even bother me. So if i was dev i would ignore 99% of posts just like they are doing now. Imagine they woud try and fix every QQ on the forum! Believe you me that we would play a game more similar to barbie dressup online game not mechwarrior online...

Wait i thought that is what PGI has been doing all along.

I have to say something about this topic. Yes, they are in fact anti-infantry.

However, being anti-infantry, there is a certain level of ACCURACY that is required to hit a SMALL TARGET. So IF, you are basing damage on the "anti-infantry" deal, then they would have to not only drop damage, but increase the accuracy beyond that of cow flying through a tornado. You can't pick and choose what your argument applies to. I for one prefer the wildy inaccurate, but slightly higher than you'd expect damage state they are in now. Could you imagine of you could pin-point MG's? That would be insane. Secondly, could you imagine if a Locust couldn't damage anything but a ground unit? That would just be silly.

An anti-infantry weapon that FASA just so happened to make capable of damaging the armor carried by Battlemechs.

Not really any more insane than every single other ballistic and energy weapon in the game. :D

Battlemechs are technically ground units. :)

insane damage on internal, instantly destroy al compnent of a mech ... easy to use, light, plentyfull ammo, and heat free... they are actually a bit of a monster...

You can core a atlas in 5 second flat front on ct is clean of armor with 2-4 machine gun...wich mean one cheese build assault alpha +5 second one mech dead or totally crippled...

Yeah, because that cheese-build couldn't just fire again in that 5 seconds....

For MGs to be a danger your armor must be gone. For them to be a serious danger your armor must be gone and the enemy must have many of them.

MGs have huge problems for the few advantages they possess. First, you have to look right at your target continuously to do anything to it. They are as pure of a dps weapon as you can get (even more so than the AC2). Second, they do crap to armor. Third, their range is super short (even with the buff), so if you can shoot the enemy he and all his friends can shoot you.

If your problem is the 4x MG Spider, then complain about hit detection and leave the MGs out of it. If your complaint is about all MG builds everywhere, then deal with it. They've been crap for so long, now that they actually have a useful function don't try to ruin them again.

Its a humbling experience when you have One Medic Army hunting you down with 4 of them in his JM6-DD. First leaving you weaponless then slowly chipping away every inch of your life,...

Machine guns are fine. They have a purpose now. When before they were used for the sound. Every weapon should have a risk and reward. Maybe the "instant" damage when you fire them should be tweaked or that they should be more fragile?

What else is new? PGI can't do math, can't patch without breaking something and its either OP like hell or as dirt useless as ****.

Take your pick, buff or nerf. There is no middle ground with PGI.

I don't feel like they are right they are quite weak vs armor and suddently boom your dead because you got no armor...

Ne evr saw an atlas die so fast after loosing its armor...

even worse in a medium

Lol, I'm flattered :)
To be fair, that DD build is doing quite well, mainly from the AC/5s and Larges though. (I've never even used up more than half my 2t of MG ammo)

I've been regularly rolling out 700+ damage per match with my Cicada 3C with this new MG buff. I used the MG's before the patch just because I like dakka dakka, but now... holy hell, I've been in Cicada Hulk mode.

And I like it. Haha.

It's very situational, but woe betide the mech that has 5-6 mg's trained on them with armor gone!!

Waiting for the lights to start complaining, very amusing to watch leg internals go pop in no time flat
