The fact is machine guns get a bonus against infantry.
People who read into "Mgs get a bonus against infantry" that Mgs are bad at everything else are bad at logic.

My favorite part of any MG thread is when the hardcore gun bois come in salivating with their links to real life guns and try to explain how things should work because cliber blah blah and it does this against a tank FOR A GAME ABOUT GIANT ROBOTS WITH PLASTIC MUSCLES THAT MOVE BECAUSE YOU HAVE A SPACE HELMET ON AND A FIGHTER PLANE JOYSTICK.
That said, I wouldlike them to be more effective against armor. But it would require a reduction in crit ability I think too then. Really though, if they do nothing more with MG, it would probably be OK. I think they are going to be even more potent once hit detection gets fixed up anyway. Lasers, MG, and even missiles are kinda getting a bunk deal compared to giant single shot stuff like AC20 and Gauss and PPC because of junk detection right now.

Personally I wish they bumped up base damage and slightly decreased critical damage, though I suppose it would make MGs a little less unique.

I wouldn't go that far, but at least it's not going to suck as badly as it would otherwise, and that is good; hopefully the Locust will be even smaller than the Spider.

The only reason people come into threads to post that an MG is ".50" caliber is because they are misinformed and think it is the same MG they use in Call of Duty or Battlefield. You know the irony in that? Not even in BF3 can a handheld infantry MG damage a Tank, but its a handheld gun, not a half ton monster gun strapped onto a future-awesome BattleTech machine. And as I recall, BF3 has ATV vehicles with 20mm cannons that damage Tanks, and those 20mm cannons are basically the equivalent of Battle Tech MG's. But, since MWO is a "first person" game like CoD/BF3, that's why people state that.
Also @ at the Locust - MASC comment. Only the later Jihad variants use it and MASC is likely to be limited by canon timeline variants (best guess scenario).

The best part about all of this is that in the TT rules the modern day tank gun can't even dent Battlemech armor. The MG can.
That should really put what a Battletech MG is capable of into perspective.

Yep, i gatta lead too. But it is an instant hit when you pull the trigger if the mech is in the path (there's no travel speed). It's like it's a water noodle type of laser... lol kinda bends around when you move so you gatta make up for it..

I do not understand why there is a damage buff to internals. Does a MG slug really do more damage to internals and exposed weapons than a AC/5 slug? Or a SRM? Or a laser? It does not make sense to me.

Haha, I was just goofing around with fitting something like that in the Outreach Mechlab: [JM6-DD]: 4xMG, 2xLBX, 2xMLAS, 300XL, DHS, Endo
Sometimes it's good to just do something really silly in PUG matches to keep your sanity.

I know the 295 and ferro is weird... but I have the 295 in stock, and didn't want to spend 3mill on a marginal upgrade, and the ferro was a mistake, thought it was putting on endo.. oh well lol.
However, I'm still pumping out 550 damage a game, and while an atlas brings his hammer down on your mech and you down a full health cataphract then nearly core the atlas afterwards? Yeah it's a fun mech

A silly load out, but for some reason it works for me. the amount of crits is just silly.
my jagermech S is (x2)MG (x2) LBX-10 (x4) Medlas.

Boo Hoo you cant hid in the back of the pack and snipe/lob LRM's willy nilly any more!

Yes I am a nerd and read all of the BT novels. With that said the above does not mean anything and should not be the basis for any kind of argument for gameplay adjustments.
