The best defense against a lot of 3D Phracts is faster mechs that keep moving, and keep moving laterally so as to make it difficult to focus the damage of the gauss and the PPCs onto the same component. Move as a unit, and get on top of the enemy quickly.
Some of the most effective teamwork I've seen didn't involve poptarts. It involved a concerted rush with a strong focus on target calling. Violence of action coupled with strong teamwork.

Poptarting is fine as is and never was a really that much of a problem.
JJs are not fine because they do not work correctly. Forward momentum should be through thrust, not how fast your mechs happens to be running prior to using his JJs.

Seriously, when I can almost take down a full health sniper fit highlander in river city by popping up over buildings and tagging him repeatedly while running through cover in a 45ton Blackjack-1 it's too easy.
Oh, and I was already pretty hurt.
(For clarity, he had PPCS+Gauss, I had PPCs+MGs+SLs)
It's not hard, and if you understand about moving before you hit the jets you're pretty darn difficult to hit.
Most jumpsnipers just sit still and make themselves easy targets.

Maybe the JJ shake should be a little worse than it is, but that's about it.
And no, I don't poptart, find it annoying and unfun to do.

How is this not the Highlander's fault? I pop tart a lot and obviously fight against them and I always laugh when people just STAND in the OPEN trying to counter my pop tarting. I'm making myself a difficult target, I move around some every shot or every few shots depending on how good the opponents are to make myself a harder to hit target by changing where Im jumping from, meanwhile I find sooo many people just stand there trying to shoot me back making themselves a super easy to hit target.
If you find a pop tart is wrecking your face. here's a hint MOVE, perhaps that low ridge your humping isn't the ideal place to stand. relocate to some other spot.
edit: I wanted to toss in an example, one of my clan mates died early in a match and watched me on river city I was in my blackjack 3 standing in c4 behind the building that says Emergency standby on the roof sign pop tarting a Highlander standing on the ramp to the citadel. Which is what? half a grid away?
The Highlander pilot just stood there and took it, jump, double PPC, jump double PPC.. over and over and over and over. I think it took me about 10 salvo's to drop him since some drifted to his side torso's than his first response? ***** about pop tarting.. How about instead moving behind some cover? relocate, go somewhere else, fight a different person..
What brought this up is because I often do well in my 3D and he was suprised that the guy just took it, I told him more often than not this is what most people do, just stand there getting blasted
edit edit: I just watched the video and... eh? What is this suppose to showcase? It's a close battle till the end when the enemy team sorta ambled into your alive teams piece meal and got torched even though they where ahead.

This guy was actually coming after me, sub-200m range, moving through the buildings like I was.
It was still child's play to popsnipe him.
The fact that I had the higher mounted weapons, smaller profile, better jets, and faster speed just made it even easier.

If it was childs play than obviously you where a better player than him because there is no reason it should of been that simple. Just because someone in a poorly piloted Highlander goes down easily doesn't somehow mean pop tarting is to easy.
Heavier mech doesn't = good player
edit: why cant I ever complete a thought before posting? There's been plenty of games that I've pop tarted non stop. Than there's those games where you jump get hit yellow armor, jump get hit orange armor.. stop jumping

I'm guessing a lot of people simply aren't aware how easy it is to poptart now, compared to a few weeks ago. I would say that the reason it's not a big problem is because people just got bored with it, but people don't get bored with winning.
yeh that's no suprise you will probably need to increase your ELO a couple of thousand points to drop against me

True that, but you guys did have to adjust a little, yeah? That vid to me show jump sniping to be exactly what it was to begin with before the nerf/buff cycle, the only difference being you can shoot on the way up. Real screen shake did add an extra element to targeting not present now.....

Actually, I did drop against kaffeangst yesterday, so maybe it's the other way around?
