wha? how can MW2 Mercs ruin MW3?

MW3 couldn't live up to MW2 Mercs is how that should read :)

MW2 and MW2 GBL were ok, but MW2 Mercs really set the grade as far as the whole mech design, mech lab, and cross into role playing (choosing your path and jobs you want to pick up)

Everything else is just a wanna be.

MW3 had better graphics and better mech control/movement than MW2 Mercs, but you were still limited on the single player missions. Mercs gave you choices each time you were in the mech bay.

MW4 Vengeance + Black knight were the same, except they dumbed down the mechlab (probably after realising what they had inadvertently created in MW3) and made it more arcade like.
MW4 Mercaneries gave you back control of how your path went in the singleplayer, and while gave players a degree of customisation (if it fitted the slots/colours, you could fit it) but didnt come close to being as good as the MW2 Mercs or later MW3 labs.

Although mobile repair bays would have been nice in MW2 Mercs, you just didn't get to face off against enough enemies to take that much damage.

So to OP, you missed MW2 Mercs, please add to your poll.

Better worded. I just couldn't get in to MW3.

MW2:Mercs comes on 1st, MW3 and MW:LL would be tied for second place.

MW2:Mercenaries. Excellent mission design, AAR's / additional info was either useful or fleshed out the setting. Very good atmosphere, and a very real sense that you controlled your destiny - via mission selection, dynamic salvage, and lancemate hiring.

I would grant the original Mechwarrior points for it's excellent mission rewards haggling, equally atmospheric presentation, as well as the detailed mechlab outline damage displays. MW2:mercs gets by with a simplified silhouette, but did do the rotating image thing to show you your hardware. Ultimately MW2:mercs varied mission objectives, briefings, large equipment selection, and outstanding soundtrack make it #1 for me.

So really - in order from best to, not so much best.
Mechwarririor 2 mercs
Mechwarrior
Mechwarrior 2 GBL
Mechwarrior 2
Mechwarrior 3
Mechwarrior 4 mercs
Mechwarrior 4 Blackknight
Mechwarrior 4

No option for mechcommander? I'd have to go with 4 honestly. I liked the mechanics even if I hated how paperthin vehicles were.

MechCommander was fun too but the generic laser/lrm/autocannon stuff was a little weird.

I voted MW3, but it's a close call. MW2: Mercs is just as good.
Everything else is second place. Only other game that was just as fun, as those two in the Mechwarrior franchise, is the first Mechcommander.

MW4:Hardcore.... it was more 'sim' than arcade, with a very deep strategic component. The other incarnations simply do not compare, like chalk and cheese.

I have to agree with this. The NBT hardcore stuff was great.

No idea why Mw3 has so many votes... I guess people really loved legging Sunder UAC-20 boats with 16xERSL Scats or something. LOL. The multiplayer in that game was insanely bad.

I thought Mw3 was far away and the worst in the entire series.

If you go for multiplyer maybe, of you go for soloplay then not.

What?!! No Mechassault?? But those were the best!!

Jk. MW2 hands down for me. MW3 had the best sound effects though. Which is really important to me.

eh I felt that MW3 sfx felt flat; rocket launcher sfx would overload the higher ranges of my speakers
Mw2 had the best autocannon sfx; a dry harsh barking sound with reverb

Even though you couldnt play it online, Ghost Bear Legacy was the best of Mechwarrior. MW4 brought us larger scale battles.

Aridos, The graphics were mind blowing for their time but do look dated by today's standards. However, the game play and overall experience is excellent.

Any way to obtain it/download from somwhere today? It should be around 300Mb for it's age, am I right?
