In that it generates whine disproportionate to how effective it is against people who can hit stuff?

There is a difference between shooting where you aim and shooting at something that's not really there.

I'm pretty sure mechine guns doesn't have anything to do with spiders being unhittable.
Also almost same 40 damage pinpoint alpha as jagers... oh wait.

The more threads you open about that the worse it will get.

My personal opinion: Its really not that big of a deal. Just hit them when they land after jumping, most vulnerable in that spot.

AND MGs are not the problem, spider-lag is.

I was in my 5D, came across an Atlas ran across his field of view, and it looked like it was firing an AC20 trying to hit me but it was in slow motion, saw the blast, then heard the shot and kept missing me, it seemed like my mech was causing severe lag.

Spiders are quick, your best bet is a rolled up newspaper or can of bug spray.

Although the crit damage is a bit high, I think the bigger issue is hit detection.

It's hard to really comment on how OP a Spider is with MGs and blame the MGs when really we just have a hard time hitting the little buggers. The crit damage isn't that OP if the little mech using it can actually bit hit. Because the MG range is short, the Spiders and such have to be close and that should make them easier to hit if hit detection was working properly.

I say fix hit detection and then we can truly re-evaluate MGs at that time.

I fear them more than any other mech right now they are so bad. I've used everything on them and nothing seems to work. My AC20 is only effective when they land from a jump or it registers no hit even though I get a hit detection on my end. I've hit some of them standing still with AC20 and it did minimal damage. So I started using lasers and yes you get hits but it's always all over when they are moving. The only thing that hits them is streaks and mechs 1 with missle bay doesn't cut it.

Jenners go down nicely. Cicada's too. Commandos? well you look at them and they blow up. But every game it's the 2-3 spiders going willy nilly between 4-5 mechs and living for extended time. God I hope they fix that.

The real crux of the matter is hit detection, not the MGs. Use the same build on a Cicada-3C and everyone just laughs it off as they apply a healthy dosage of PPC to the Cicadas' face. I see half my shots impact the Spider model but cause ****all damage to them.
