Since the last patch, MGs are now crit-eating monsters.
When you go to sleep, leave the lights on, because if you don't the MGs will come out from under your bed, and eat your crits alive! You will wake up to the sounds of the screams!!!
Seriously, machine guns have been over-buffed. They're no longer just obnoxious troll weapons, but actually finish off damaged mechs pretty quicky. They're way more destructive than they were in tabletop Battletech, where I could swear they added infantry just to give MGs something to do.

Ok so I have to eat a little bit of crow. I built a 5n with mg x 3, 2 lrg laser, srm 4 arti, BAP, and a 350xl. Once enemy armor is compromised the mg's shredded internals like crazy. Tried 2 other builds, a 2 lrg pulse laser and a 2 ER PPC instead of lrg laser. Both worked well but require a smaller engine(330 xl), the lrg pulse laser did really well but runs a little hot. Don't really like getting in that close but in a swarm attack it did well.

Been using UAC5 / 2LL / SRM4 with XL320, but might try out that MG build with the 360. Don't want ot spaff all my C-Bills on an experiment though.

You can go with this as 5N
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...0c50ecb50659305
alternatively if you do not like srm just drop it and add more heat sinks, it works excellent as hit and run sniper and mgs to help finish of badly damaged enemies. Just be careful to not brawl it is when dragons will die. Huge ct is big liability in close combat.

Since LBX spread got tightened last patch I figured I'd give it another try. Put LBX, 2 mg's, and ERPPC on the 5N. Strip enemy armour at range with ERPPC, close and blast internals with crit seeker x3. Wow! Able to kill scouts with LBX at 300-400 m, spread is nice. This is a kill stealer, stay back and let team smash enemy armour, rush in and tear out internal, move on. Pug match this morning before work- 6 kills, 5 assists, 650 damage! Super fun.

Ill echo the Flame. I like Dragons and have played them all except the Fang. Nothing has come close the success I have had with the Flame and I use a very simple build on it. Gauss/4ML. Simple, boring, for me very effective. It actually has the best stats of all my mechs, even though its not my favorite. I love my HBK 4g, and I think the Ilya is a beast, but K/D and wins the Flame has them beat.

I run that Flame as well. My fav variant is 330 XL with BAP, hunts scouts and ECM lights like crazy.
