I'm okay with the LPL being subpar. The problem is the LLAS is still too good. The PPC can be balanced by heat. The LLAS could use a slight beam duration nerf to differ it from the large pulse which I run in concert with mlas to overcome hardpoint limits on some builds.

I ran 2 LPL, 4 SL, 4 SRM6+A for a while. I tried to make it work. I tried to justify the LPLs to myself. I played it for weeks.

When I finally said screw it, and changed the LPLs to LLs, it was a whole new mech. The LPL just doesn't have the range needed for common encounters in existing maps; and its slight heat-efficiency advantage vs the LL is totally offset by simply using the extra tonnage for heat sinks, giving you not only more heat bleed rate, but also, greater heat capacity.

Large Pulse Laser remains stupid. Anyone using them is handicapping himself. The only honest benefit of LPL is it doesn't project an easily-visible beam of kill across the map when you shoot it, making it slightly more difficult for opponents to locate your mech.

I'm sorry i might have misunderstood, but it sounds like you're saying a LPL has a heat efficiency advantage over a LL? If that is the case than i have to say that you are completely and utterly wrong. LPL is significantly hotter to run than a LL, 30+% hotter in fact.

As a dedicated light pilot - my spider gets killed more often by LPL's than anything else. Just a heads up.

He's actually saying the opposite.

For a weapon with a range of 300 they are terrible, they were good before they were last "adjusted". Pulse lasers in general aren't worth using right now.

I think lpl are underrated. But very specific. I use them with an ac 20/2 lpl brawling highlander and they give me what I want.
I would rather have a second ac 20, but lack the hard point. Srms are too inaccurate (I can focus side torsos on any heavy or assault easily) as are large lasers (almost double beam duration). Ppcs minimus is too big of a drawback on a brawler, and er ppcs are 50 percent hotter and significantly lower dps (I think the total fire to fire time on lpls is now lower).

I know, ac 20 still better, but ammo is a limiting factor and lpls have a lower skill cap as hit scan weapons.

If you can place a ppc shot unerringly at 500 meters, lpls are not for you. If you frequently miss light mechs, lpls may be for you.
I agree that for top pilots, therefore, lpls probably worse. For joe average? There are real tradeoffs.

(I've had some luck with a 2 lpl, er ppc, gauss atlas rs too.)
