Hello,

I play Mechwarrior Online but I also fly RC planes and considering Mechwarrior 2 had aerotech fighters and this game also does (but only automatic airstrike), I think it would be nice if you could pilot them as well. In fact it would be great! It would literally add a whole new dimension to the game.

While it would add a new and interesting dimension to the game, I am concerned about the playability of them. You'll be able to strafe targets, but you'd be limited to the map dimensions and all you'll be doing is circling around the whole game. And that's assuming they slow them down so there's no hit detection, warping, or other things associated with high speed vehicles.

I'd like to see them add tanks.

But again, anything other than a mech takes a mech away from the mech game.

It would take some thinking about how to properly implement it but I'm sure it could be done.

You would need HUGE maps, so the fighters have enough space to turn. And the steering mechanism would be totally different from a Mech.

I'm not getting why people keep demanding stuff that would complicate the game before it's even running.

I'm not demanding anything lol, I'm only suggesting ideas.

In previous games there are slow heavy type 'fighters'.

It's just an idea to think about.

This game is called Mechwarrior, not Aerospace Jockey :)

To be honest, some developers tried in cooperate player controlled Aircraft in massive Multiplayer Shooters.
Battlefield 1942 did it AFIAK first, and... well it worked, but with a lot of problems from balancing to small maps for real fast fighters.

While I would like to see AI controlled Tanks and Infantery in MWO, and i don't dislike the Airstrikes I don't believe this game should have other player controlled units besides Mechs. Keep it to the core.

But if you like Aerospace Fighters:
Mechwarrior Living Legends, a Mechwarrior Mod for Crysis Wars have them.
And some guy is working at a Aerotech Mod for the Freespace 2 Engine - just Fighters, Dropships and Warships, no Mechs and Ground Combat - look at Hard-light.net for it.

Mech cockpit to aeotech cockpit doesnt seem like a leap to me.

Aerotech in orbit would work awsome as a guess or pre post jump route. Would be awsome and hope they add this. Less demanding graphically maybe, but its not all about the graphics, its also about the game play and sim and so on.

Winning side in orbit has air strikes available...... winning side at jump route has any planetary access at all. This would be hard to balance but might make for Aerotech strong houses and planet side strong houses and so on, which would be realistic really. Bringing the elements of seige to the game play. Or windows of opportunity.

This would add alot of depth to the faction warfare for sure.

It'll get popular once the 2PPC+Gauss UAV variant is introduced :)

maps aren't nearly large enough, plus I doubt they're designed with them in mind, (ie there are probably lots of places that don't look compelte once you get over a certain altitude.

Sure they'd be fun, but the game has to designed with them in mind from the beginning.
