Armor values would need to remain as they are due to pin point damage, or the Stock Match would end as quick as a public open-custom match. Right now with the many private stock matches tested, the length of combat is longer than open-custom due to the increased armor values.

I really like the idea of storied encounters. This will give us the opportunity to play out some of the great battles from the battletech universe and continue the legacy of the franchise. I imagine there are some MWO players that are unfamiliar with the universe, and this would be a great way to introduce new fans. I also liked the suggestion of choosing a weight class and letting the matchmaker sort out the rest. It would be really interesting to see how the meta changes when lances are forced into the traditional structure.

TL:DR you want a stock mode?

No problem with that, but you're going to have to understand that stock mode will probably have even less variety than the current "anything flies" mode, simply because so many of the stock mechs are freaking terrible.

My only concern is that the whole system in MWO is not built for stock... The weapons are not stock other than in size and weight, the equipment (ECM anyone?) are not providing stock functions, the heat scale and it's kludges (ghost heat, 'desyncing', etc) are not stock... I could go on, but a 'stock build' in a system that is not, is a broken mode. I want a 'Legacy Mode' if you will. I dont' care how 'bad' some people think such a thing would be.

Most 'stock' mechs run SHS, which is completely non-functional in MWO. Who seriously doesn't go out and buy DHS the second they buy a mech?

This is just...wrong. There's a handful of decent stock fits that would be almost the only things you'd see because they'd utterly beast the other inferno-waiting-to-happen builds. Almost anything with stock DHS, for example.

you guys just dont have idea what you are talking about.
Im sure you never heard about bt eras and technology levels.
I see a lot more variety in stock. Thing is proven and count less times tested already.

I think that something as simple as adding new game modes could help with this. Taking ideas from the sourcebooks there could be recon raids (similar to conquest with fewer points) where the attacker needs to get to a point and hold it for a few seconds and then escape the field. Points would be given for attackers capturing data from one or more targets (more points), destroying enemy mechs (fewer points), using less tonnage (point bonuses), etc. Defenders would be awarded points by destryoing enemy mechs before data is captured, destroying the mech that captured a point, using less tonnage (point bonus).

This will create options to add a little bit of the heart of Battletech back into the game. The Succession Wars were less about destroying every mech on the field and more about controlling the ability for mech production and fielding. Every destroyed mech was a blow to the unit as replacements were difficult and sometimes impossible to get.
