So over the past few days I have been thinking up how a map such as that would work in this game, while wondering if people would actually like it (Since Terra was so unloved). So here I am posting it to see what people would think.

I figured that it would be rather cool on las weapons up until people start firing them allot. At that point the water would boil and the cooling bonus would be lowered in that area of the map. Las weapons also might have reduced range due to the energy cooling sooner then it's stated max.

That would help because ballistic weapons would have reduced effective range.

Missile weapons would act like torpedoes so other then reduced speed, not much range difference.

As for mechs them selves, the reduction in speed of the mech will depend on it's size.

And for the map, there could be reefs and such.

So what do you all think on how to make this work better or at all? Or is it the same as a bad Christmas present with nice wrapping?

Reference from http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Mad_dog

Mad Dog/Vulture
Variants:
  • Alt. Config. U - An underwater configuration, this version usesBattleMech HarJel System to prevent hull breaches. It's equipped with five UMUs to maintain a high cruising speed underwater. Its weaponry consists of twin LRT-15s with Artemis IV guidance and each arm carries a Medium Pulse Laser and ER Medium Laser. BV (2.0) = 2,488
Mad Dog/Vulture

So you see, underwater warfare is part of cannon, including torpedoes. I absolutely love this idea and wish for some underwater action! :P

Woot! I did not actually know if it was since mw3 was the only other game I had played.

Fun fact , Mad Dog is actually one of my fave mechs and I have a k-nex kit of it assembled and sitting by my computer ^.^

Sweet deal! Looks like you are missing that cannon where you flick out the plastic projectile though. Guess I will be looking for you in one of those if they bring them out with clans!

yup, you're right on both fronts. I lost that little cannon things years ago, and yes, once that Mad Dog comes out i doubt i'll hardly use the other mechs much anymore, just love that mad dog sooooo much! I even made a paper model of it like 6 months ago, maybe I'll post a picture of it sometime.

yup... well, i posted the pics of that Mad Dog Paper Model here: http://mwomercs.com/...03#entry1839803

by the way, I was thinking that since they have on the list of maps coming out, the map

that they should just make a good portion of that underwater.

It would have to be benefical for underwater supplies to warrent enough to send mechs to deep sea what does the ocean have that no where else has? What resources are available in the sea?

Oil for starters ,why do you think off shore oil rigs exist. I bet there are also minerals as well . http://www.waterency...-the-Ocean.html

What use would oil be in 3050 unless mechs need a grease job for the joints? Since everything is ran by fusion engine no need for piston engines.

Granted we can mine up ores but peoples still dependant on oil in 3050?

Sounds good except for the boiling part, there is no way lasers would be able to heat the water enough for it affect any thing. There is about 332,519,000 cubic miles of water in earths oceans, how much energy do you think you'll need to cause any sort of noticeable affect.

internal combustion engines are still in wide spread use all over the inner sphere in Conventional vehicles so oil is still needed

OK a trail of bubbles would look cool no matter what weapon you were firing I'll give you that.

Missiles become torpedoes, but how about the machine gun?, Would it become the underwater spear gun?, (I never heard the use of machine gun in the underwater). Btw, it would be nice if there are also some sharks or whales swimming around that sometime become obstacle for your line of sight (LOS) or become obstacle for your weapon when it's fired, but still those creature can be killed to have a good LOS again.. :)
