I have a custom built Devtracker. How it works is thus:
I subscribe for instant email notifications from every forum.
Gmail applies filters as follows:
If mail is from forums@mwomercs.com, assign label MWO and remove from inbox
If subject line contains ((Paul Inouye)|(Bryan Ekman)|(Viterbi)|(otherdevsandsuchlikethis)) assign label MWO/DevTracker, flag as important, star it
if subject line contains (liked a post you made), assign label MWO/Interesting, never flag as important, mark as read
if subject line contains (posted topic), assign label MWO/NewThreads
if subject line contains ((quoted a post you made)|(personal conversation with you)|(threadtitleifindimportant)|(peoplewho'spostsIfindinteresting)) assign label MWO/Interesting
Then I set my phone's notification preferences per label, so I receive no notifications for label MWO (this one is very spammy, shows all forum activity). I get one notification for new MWO/Interesting messages, so I know there's messages I'm interested in available but so I don't get spammed, and I get notifications for every new email in MWO/Devtracker.
This whole system totally bypasses my inbox, so it's invisible from a normal email use perspective, but it provides folders showing all forum activity, things I personally find interesting, dev (and other PGI staff) tracking, and even a folder with a link to every new thread posted.
It works very, very well, doesn't spam me at all, and makes forum use awesome.
An entertaining upside or perhaps downside is I get the notification emails immediately, so sometimes I'll read the post in my email, and decide to reply to it. Click the link in the email, respond to the post... But then it turns out the original poster edited his post (or was moderated) and what I'm responding to isn't what's in the post anymore
So, if I added a (Chavette) up in my "interesting" filter, I'd get a notification in my MWO/Interesting folder of every new thread you make, as well as any posts you make in threads I'm interested in - that is, any thread that I've subscribed to, either automatically via posting in the thread, or because I opened the thread in my MWO/NewThreads folder, thought it was worth watching and subscribed to it there.
The upside of the NewThreads approach above is that I won't notice "random" posts to that thread unless I look back into my MWO folder, but I will get "Interesting" notification is someone who's opinion I'm interested in weighs in on that thread. It's a magical system.
