ok PGI, you really need to give us BACK, since we had it in closed beta, the ability to bind our mousewheel up/down.

since you guys were kind enough to take AWAY our ability to modify the actionmaps.xml file and REFUSE to give support we can no longer bind those.

in doing so you have basically took away 2 of my weapon groups (4/5) since that is what i use them for and have now limited me to only 3 weapon groups on my mouse! this make heat control more difficult, i have had to rearrange ALL my mech's weapon groups and you have basically taken away some of the enjoyment of the game and added MORE frustration

i have been begging and pleading since the bind was taken away, why? i have no idea, and have wondered why it has taken this long to bring it back

instead we have people running around with 5/6 ac2 on a mouse that they can macro a button to and basically turn it into an ac2 gatling gun, which HIGHLY makes it unfair to those of us who use just a basic mouse/keyboard that is limited to what we can bind keys and buttons too.

this is just another example of the basic game play functions that SHOULD be on the top of the list instead of just sitting on the back burner while you keep introducing cosmetic #$@& that is of no help to functionality.

HOTFIX IT PLEASE!

Seems like PGI needs to address this since it was something people made use of for so long. Not fair to take it away with no answer to resolve it.

Have to agree there, being able to bind that would extremely useful, Not having to take my hand off the mouse to toggle ecm on/off would be fantastic.

I agree that the mouse wheel bind would be a nice thing to have. I never had it and eneded up buyng a new mouse specifically for this game. People should have to do that.

BTW, guys, If you can get one cheap, Razer Nagas work surprisingly well for this.

yea i'm not sure if this should be in game play balance or suggestions tho. i mean it's on the player to i suppose get hardware that allows whatever, which leads me to believe this isn't about balance.

certainly a good suggestion though and agree w/the OP 100%

I would also like to be able to use my mouse wheel.

But remember maybe PGI have specific plans for it in the future they have not communicated to us yet.

and the more i chew on this one i'm like, "Why? Most games honor the mouse wheel." hehe

cuz the wheel is actually 3 buttons, a zip up, zip down, and a click (on mine) cheapie little thing that it is, it does technically have 5 'buttons' that most games allow me to key bind.

Chances seem good

Murku: Any chance if seeing mouse wheel as bindable in options? Lots of people like it for zoom, others for weapon group swapping. Currently only way to set it is in action maps.XML, which has been declared off-limits for tampering in 'rules and guidelines' forum under 'custom modifications to mwo client'.
A: Yes.

they "say" yes, and i have submitted numerous tickets, but all i get for an answer is "soon", well i been asking since closed beta when they took it away and here we are what? 9 months later and we still cannot do it? what does soon mean? next year? PGI seems to put basic game play issues on the back burner and try to appease us with answers like "soon"

if they have a plan for a future use of the mouse up/down, i sure do not want it and would bind it somewhere else.

like i said, i do ALL my weapon firing from my mouse which in turn is how i control my heat, which has now become exponentially harder due to the lack of being able to bind my up/down

we had it in closed beta, so the coding is there, it just needs to be reinstated, how hard can that be?

They've acknowledged that we want it, so at least they know. It may take a couple of months because it's low priority, but later is better than never I suppose.

The anti-macro crowd will throw a fit. Since not 'everyone' has a wheel mouse.

Yes, I know how ridiculous that sounds. But they do like their complaining.

Just because they say you can't modify actionmaps.xml doesn't mean you can't do it. It just means you shouldn't ask them for help about it, cause they don't officially support it.

Why can't you edit the actionmaps.xml ? it is in your user profile so it is game as far as I am concerned plus since you are so frustrated, why not?

<rebind device="keyboard" input="mwheel_down" index="1" defaultInput=""/>
mwheel_up

(Plus, mine was edited back when we were "allowed", are you sure yours wasn't too?)

^this. not that i was around for closed beta, but i shore would like to use that there button. my mouse wheel is also a button, it clicks up and down, i'd like to use that there button. it also zips up or down, and i can't recall a video game that didn't let me bind all 3 actions of the mouse wheel. i mean, i'm no computer programmer, for all i know it's difficult, but far inferior games have let me bind it. ;)
