I'm wondering where I should post my "resume," and what to call a group I belong to. I know the term Clan is already taken, and they compete with the Houses - Then there's the Mercs...but they all have their own forums! Is there anywhere I can post my resume once and get scooped up by whoever sounds the most appealing to me? I'm not picky about if I'm Clan, House or Merc, or whatever. I just want to log every day and play with the same group of people and kill ****.

Merc corps are what you are looking for.

All of that is in the Merc Corps- Outreach section of the forums.

I don't know about getting scooped up, most units will want you to submit an application.

Cool, I appreciate the input. I'll head over there and post it up.

Here is the Hiring Hall thread in the Merc Corp Outreach section over there. Post here and you'll get a ton of invitations. http://mwomercs.com/...94-hiring-hall/

You may want to read the forums for a while though. Many of us Mercs are flying our banners, pay attention to what the members are saying and how they say it. It will give you a feel for how the unit acts as a whole. You don't want to join a unit you don't get along with.

I'm completely on-board with this. It's great advice which I plan on following.

the other thing you could do is drop onto the NGNG TS3 server, there are lots of Lone wolves there just forming 4 man groups and a lot of the Merc and house groups are active on there as well.

you can drop with some of them before you need apply to any of them, you might find some good friends in the process :)

Malkiv, just one question. How competitive do you want to be with your unit? Considering we're all aging and real life gets in the way, do you need the same lance/unit every night or are you good with a larget unit and dropping with who's availabe/who you like to drop with the most?

Me, personally, I like to be very competitive, but not super-serious - if that makes sense? Also, I like to play with the same (large or small) group every day, as long as I can log in and see familiar faces pretty much every day. However, I completely understand that not everyone can dedicate five to eight hours per night, every night, to an online game. My wife plays online PC games, my son plays console games; we're a very tech-oriented family, and so I can actually dedicate a significant amount of time. But I'm looking for a unit that doesn't have a "revolving door" or "mass open invite" policy. I'm not dissing on units like that at all, it's just that I'd rather make lasting connections with people I play with, and form the needed cohesion for competitive play.

I want to thank everyone for being so informative. The MWO community is - by far - above par for welcoming new members, and being as informative as possible. I appreciate every word replied with from each of you, and it's very encouraging. I hope that this thread can also help alleviate some hesitation and/or anxiety from other new players, concerning grouping and scouting.

Thank you!

I'm necro'ing my old post to elaborate on my absence, and hopefully clear the air with anyone I had disappointed with my sudden gaming hiatus.

I was forced, by necessity and family duty, to take a hiatus from gaming. I was without internet service for several days after my initial propositions to interested parties, and unfortunately I was not in a position to communicate my situation. The internet black-out, along with other events, led to my immediate family prioritization.

Fortunately, the internet issues have been resolved, and the transitional period from moving internationally has cleared. This leaves me open to my favorite form of personal recreation once more; Competitive online PVP. I have been "back" for about a week, getting used to the changes and 'mechs once more. Hopefully I can maintain my reliable schedule, and extenuate any future absences.

Thank you for your time and understanding.

Here is a link to my updated Hiring Hall post.

There are several areas of the forums dedicated to recruitment and "advertising" of the various groups, factions and corps. Its worth taking a few minutes to scan a few sections, since there's so much diversity in the types of groups out there...hyper competitive, in-game goal oriented, relaxed and carefree, etc. The small group I play with, for example, are, for the most part, older, half-blind, and dim-witted. Find the right people to play with and everything else is secondary.

Oh, we just have to talk! Now you're speakin' my lingo! :)

And to Malkiv, welcome back. Glad to hear things are sorting themselves out in "First World" issues.

Thanks, guys. Seems like I returned at the right time. The Project Phoenix thing had launched the day I came back, so right now is pretty fun as far as competition goes.

There are groups that play together within the Houses too. each house has it's own forums you can ask about groups in. In case you wopuld rather be a House player than Merc of Lone Wolf when the Community warfare starts and there are some minor differences.

My merc outfit has out comms on the No Guts No Galaxy server and we welcome drops in that want to play with us. Just scroll down the alphabet listing of channels to you hit the Royal Terra Guard. (If you are thinking merc over house in the long run).
