You can't see your own mech that well. It's a poor vanity view.
It doesn't help with orientation of your leg/torso. In fact it's more confusing; you get close to a wall and your camera view gets mushed up.
What it does do, and do well, is let you see over hills and around corners and it takes very little skill to tap F4 to stop, identify what mechs are where without exposing yourself, what sort of mech they are, what direction they're facing and a bit about their loadout before tapping again and moving on.
What it will also do is tell the other teams exactly where your team is so even if you never use 3PV if the guy on your team following you is your position is totally blown.
It's not even like MW3/MW4 where 3PV was just the superior method of play. You played in 3PV to be competitive and 1PV was there for tryhards and singleplayer scenarios.
No, this is an amazing approach of taking 3PV/1PV mixed play.... and making it worse. I'm speechless.

I don't see that option. Or is that managed by the MatchMaker depending on whether you toggle it on by default or not?

I've seen people demonstrate over time that this doesn't happen often enough. Even some of the guys I play with ask "what has changed"... not to say they are ignorant... but even Blizzard patches force feed you patch notes so you have no excuse.

The point is to help newbies with situational awareness as it pertains to how a 'mech moves in its environment. If it accomplishes that ("oh, I see, so which way my legs are pointing is where I move, but I can look around independent of that. So it's like WoT, not CS"), and encourages them to switch to 1PV once they get the basics down, then I'd say working as intended.

I am as casual as it gets and I never play any game in 3pv. Unless you are using the term "Casual" in a different way than its actual meaning. Casual does not equal new or inexperienced or even dumb, it means we are not serious. Which is funny because most serious competetive gamers are the ones who take advantage of a 3pv in any game they can access it. Go ahead and tell me I am wrong

ALERT, ALERT. Casual players now spend 120$ on non existent games and have over 4000 posts on forums
Average players or whatever, you know what I meant.
