To my knowledge, Depth of Field effect should simulate the way the human eye sees the picture - the object on which the look is centered is seen clearly (under focus), and other objects at longer (or shorter) distances are blurred (not focused). In other FPS games I've played before this effect seemed to work correctly.

In MWO however it workls like this - the further the object is from the mech, the more blurred it is. The game does not take into accout the point on which the view is focused at all.

This results in sniping being a horrible experience - instead of seeing a clear and sharp picture when zoomed, we see a horribly blurred image because the objects we look at are far away. (and don't forget the x4 zoom module abomination, which is a disgrace to optics technology)

Thankfully, you can turn off Depth of Field effect by setting Post-Processing to low. However, this also turns off / reduces other effects, which makes the game look worse in geneal.

Why is DoF not working correctly in this game?
Is this by design, and if so, why in the world?

My suggestion is to make a separate option for Depth of Field (like in other games) in the graphics settings which is not linked to Post-Processing, so that people could turn it off without an impact on the graphics quality.

I think real DOF in crysis is expensive? Using the fake volume fog DOF is probably cheaper... It would be nice if they gave us a choice. I turned off DOF and Motion Blur the moment I can to this game, back then it was code in the cfg :/

I will probably dig the config file and see how to get rid of it, just haven't got time.

However, turning off this fake DoF should be a standard setting.
It does not add anything to the game, but provides a disadvantage to long-range weapon users and makes the world look worse in general.

You can remove DOF without disrupting other game effects by editing the config file.
You can also remove the horrible pixilating screen effect if u want to.
