I've had this too, but I have auto patch turned off, I just close the patcher and restart it a min or 2 later and it works as normal.
My client has just tried to patch 2.4Gb for a second time. I was not up for wasting another two evenings of premium time gaming, so I tried Action Mac's workaround. I had already disabled auto-patch after the last time this happened. I tried re-launching the client once or twice, but it still insisted on a Patch. I eventually had to click Patch, but then I immediately cancelled it, despite the warning message. I re-launched the client another one or two times and eventually it let me login OK. So, the workaround works, if you persist. Thanks, Action Mac - you are a god.

Managed to close the client when it attempted to patch and upon restart it seemed happy enough to let me play. It's been a recurring issue though since the latest patch (20th Aug), but this morning (Sun 25th Aug) the client is constantly trying to patch 2.4Gb.
I managed to sort my previous issue (Version Mismatch) by using the repair tool. However, I'd prefer not to have to download this "patch" only to have to spend more time repairing it again. Any ideas why the client keeps wanting to download this "patch"? It's only started doing this since the 20th Aug patch update.

I have this problem too.. today (yesterday, before yesterday, etc. it was just fine) launcher suddenly decided to download patch of about 2,5GB (it has to be the whole game) and since after that I have that "version mismatch" errror.. tried to run fix tool, uninstal the game and install it again, then uninstal the game once more and clean the registers with special microsoft uninstall tool - nothing worked..
when I ran the repair tool, it has found about 20 mismatched files and after pushing repair button it downloaded them again (together at least 2GB), but when I started the game then, the damned laucher started updating again (again the whole 2,5GB).. starting the application with parameter -nopatch doesn't work, launcher still has only "PATCH" option to click.. (and after it proceeds with patch, there is "version mismatch" again)
DEVS PLEASE, this game is so cool, but for what is it good when it is unplayable by such stupid means? would you at least give us some reaction? I have searched whole forum, there is a lot of ppl complaining about this problem but still no answer from any dev at the time..
Thanks in advance, I hope you can solve this soon
Regards

Launcher downloaded 2,4GB and after that I cannot run the game.
Version mismatch.
Repair tool doesn't help.(After repair, launcher download 2,4GB again and situation is repeating)
Please solve this problem ASAP.

I've just managed to reinstall the game to working state.. here is how did I do it:
1) turn you windows to display hidden files and folders
2) find the folder c:\ProgramData\Package Cache\
3) there are 2 next folders inside - in one of them you find OmicronInstaller_Bootstrapper.exe file - run this and uninstall your game client
4) after that delete completely folder c:\ProgramData\Package Cache and all its remaining content
5) instal game again
after doing this I am able to log in and play again.. hope this won't be necessary after each client restart.. :-)

Can you please change the center legs button by giving the option of NOT following the cursor. I can not defend myself if I have to wait for the legs to turn. I want the simple turn point the pointer, hit the button and the legs should turn towards the last point I selected. Thus giving me a chance to defend myself while the mech changes direction. It is constantly getting me killed.
Also having serious lag issues, even when fps and ping stays constant.

If the install directory has a trailling backslash, (ie. "C:\Directory\" instead of "C:\Directory") then the patcher will fail and crash with the errors:
28/08/2013 15:33:19 - main - Exception messages: 28/08/2013 15:33:19 - main - Caught exception in completePatch(). 28/08/2013 15:33:19 - main - createPatchedFiles() failed during second iteration! 28/08/2013 15:33:19 - main - Caught exception in performDirPatchOp(). 28/08/2013 15:33:19 - main - Invalid call to getRelPath() - 'G:\Piranha Games\MWOUpdate\patchFiles\Bin32\' does not start with 'G:\Piranha Games\\MWOUpdate\patchFiles\' Sentinel: Starting sentinel, found 0 files to swap.
Solution (from an end user pov):
Open regedit, find:
HKEY_USERS\S-X-X-XX-XXXXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXXXX-XXXX\Software\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\Production
Edit the TEMPFOLDER value and remove the additional backslash (faulty key will look something like "C:\Piranha Games\\MWOUpdate" - remove one of those backslashes to fix)

Although deleting the update folder worked for a few days, it eventually started falling over again when the MWO update folder reappeared.
The above reg fix has worked for me, hopefully it will continue to do so!
EDIT
As a side note for the developers, I do NOT have my user directory on C:\ drive.
The problem only started occurring with the new .NET 4.0 installer (going by the patch notes).
I have Visual Studio 2012 installed on my computer for making .NET applications.
Might be irrelevant, might not.

The directory does not matter, config information for the installer is saved in the registry (which is within system reserved space on the hard-drive, outside the filesystem) and the game can be installed on any drive (I have mine installed on G:\ which is reserved for games and has no system-related files).
Glad the fix worked for you

Fortunately deleting out the update folders is still working for me!
