They don't. They only license it from Microsoft.

I haven't noticed any real advantages of 3PV in practice so far. Still killing effectively, and getting killed at pretty much the same rate I was before. I can see how it could benefit jump snipers though, which is a tactic that already shouldn't exist in MWO. I'm mostly just baffled by the decision to put 3PV in the game, despite the repeated claims early on that it wouldn't ever be present in MWO. By putting 3PV in the game, you add balance issues that wouldn't otherwise exist, and for no good reason.

We were all new at one point. Why do new players now need to see their legs better? Everybody seems to have done well enough without that capability. And seeing it in third person only really means that people who learned in third person will use it forever, instead of first person.

CALL OF DUTY DOESN'T HAVE THIRD PERSON, YOU'VE BEEN PLAYING BABIES FIRST FPS THE WHOLE TIME.

All these golden tears, this is wonderful.

Actually it does have a 3rd person mode, which yes, does have even more auto aim.

jumpsniping is also neigh impossible since the reticule shakes and your mech blocks the crosshair when falling.

Switch to 3PV, look where your enemy is, wait for a good opportunity, switch to 1PV, jump, snipe, repeat.
You have full tactical awareness while the enemy only sees that you are behind the hill. Which he would have known after the first jump anyway.

It's babies first disappointment!

I'm glad I lived long enough to witness your spirit break. ^me witnessing

Child, you would have to look back a long way to see my first disappointment. It's how I can deal with everything PGI has done. I will play 1st an 3rd veiw, I will give my evaluation. but we all know their internal testers have a failing track record f finding issues, and this is the second Lie.

My spirit is not even close to breaking.

No - it's an immutable fact which is easily reproducible.

Reproducible in a very specific situation that is of dubious value. If you take any other mech it doesn't work on that corner because you're either tall enough to see over it normally or short enough that the game doesn't spazz out thinking you're clear and giving you the wide FOV. It's still using an extremely specific bug to paint the entire feature in a certain light.

why isnt pgi on here posting every 5th post to answer our questions talk about the problems?

Because they knew what a shitstorm this would be before even posting their decision. This is one feedback thread they won't even read.

No, you're thinking of SOCOM. A thoroughly dead franchise (like battletech!).

I need to make one more statement now that I've had more time to think about it; and after the command chair post by Bryan claiming they had a change of heart.

Guys, I like 3PV, I really do, but:
  • The top 3/5 of the chassi & the crosshair both occupy the lower 1/2 of the screen. This gives excessive oversight, and not enough view of the mech.
  • The FOV is too high.

    To Fix:
  • Lower the camera, so the chassi occupies 3/4 of the screen, and the cross-hair placed JUST below the 1/4 mark down, just above the head.
  • Considerably lower the FOV, this will also decrease peoples woes.
  • Optionally like suggested before, make the enemy target-able by Lrm fire when the drone is visible.
These are common sense implementations that should of been made in the first place.

The issues are compounded by poor communication, and the lack of hard-core mode for those that do not like it.

Personally I like 3PV, but it needs the changes as I said before.

3rd. I'm warn out of MWO, but Bryan's post has motivated me to take a break for awhile, while I reassess my feelings about the game and devs, and give the devs a chance to correct their mistakes.

It's a bit annoying watching the man-child rambles; and I want to do something about it, but I'm sorry PGI, you dug your own hole this time with rash actions, I'm not going to be that guy that apologizes for you.

this part is true.

and why we need seperate ques or a "blinder" effect for 3PV.

since 3PV is only for "helping to see your mech" maybe what we should do is cut viewdistance in 3PV down like they did for thermal/heat vision.

seriuosly how many of you have actually tried playing an entire match in 3PV and found it BENEFICIAL to play the entire match like this? I cant even handle more than 30 seconds in 3PV and with no arm twist your at a real disadvantage. jumpsniping is also neigh impossible since the reticule shakes and your mech blocks the crosshair when falling.

3 tries... 3 deaths with horrible results :P
so 1PV for the win

After designing, developing, and testing the MWO’s 3PV, we quickly realised that 3PV offered no significant advantage over 1PV. In fact we found each mode had pros and cons that played well with each other. This revelation changed our initial 3PV plans and we postponed Hardcore mode (separate queues for 1PV and 3PV), in favor of rethinking the idea and offering up a different solution that also addressed a few more community wish list items.[/font']

Stop lying, liar! There wasn't any revelation! You guys decided to see if 3PV would fly knowing well that 90% of the hard core community would ignore the 3PV queues. That's the reality, you know it, I know it, and everyone in this community knows it.

Your argument has merit if 3PV was locked in for the entire match.

But it's not.

Ofc you're not gonna use it to fire or in close combat. You use and abuse it to scout and for situational awareness.

And Vanguard, give it up. Even if you can't see what's directly in front of that small building you can still see everything else, something you can't see in 1PV. Are you blind?

AND YET TWO MONTHS AGO YOU DEFENDED DIRECTLY LIFTING ALL MECHANICS FROM THE TT AND DEPOSITING THEM INTO A BAD COUNTERSTRIKE RIPOFF! SO WHAT? NOW YOU DON'T WANT THEM TO DO THAT?

This is the best, my day was already pretty good and this is just maximum schadenfreude and watching sycophants squirm off the hook.

I did no such thing. I defended making this a good 1st person in the cockpit Mecha game. 3rd person makes this a Video game of TT. I am ere o be the mech pilot, not the hand of god moving a mini.

PGI,

Careful how you tread.

Think about the majority of the players that put money in this game. We are mostly adults with careers and have loved these games since childhood. We are the ones who buy Phoenix etc. Not these "kids" you are trying to grab. Pay attention to your true harcore player base. It is where your money is coming from. We will not be easily fooled or tolerate this behavior.

Please fix.

I still can't believe the reasoning around how 3rd PV came about. This should have been something a tutorial could have nipped in the bud. The FoV when in 3rd PV is game breaking.
