This is actually incorrect according to the wiki and what notes i can find. The engines are not lighter, you have to spend the extra tonnage in heat sinks i.e. a std 200 is 11.5t but you have to spend 13.5t to make it usable. by contrast a std 225 is 15t (3.5 tons heavier than the 200) and you still have to add a heatsink for a total of 16 tons. Each .5 pt of rating (205,210,etc) costs you .5 tons for standard engine no matter how many heatsinks it can hold.

In the interest of clarifying things the last 2 posts have muddled things up!
I'll try to un-**** stuff now!
In BattleTech Table Top rules the Standard 200 engine weighs 8.5 tons. In order to build any mech you also need a Cockpit which weighs 3 tons. With a 200 rated engine you need a Gyro weighing Engine/100 rounded up tons or in this case 2. If we add all these things up we get a total of...
8.5+3+2 = 13.5
In MWO the weight of the Cockpit and Gyro is added into the weight cost of every engine. That way new players don't have to add those things while building since AT THIS POINT IN THE TIMELINE we don't have light weight Gyros or Small Cockpits. However, since it was also noted by a very large number of players we also don't want Atlai with 100 or 200 rate engines (or other equally gamey designs) roaming around using similar rules to TT (not the same but similar) all mechs using Engines under 250 must account for Heat Sinks in WEIGHT and on the CRIT LOCATIONS!
This means the Standard 200 Engine in MWO weighs 11.5 tons! TT Rules 8.5 + 2 Gyro + 3 Cockpit - 2 HS. Then the 2 missing heat sinks must be added back and placed on the Crit Table in MWO! Thus bringing us back to the 13.5 tons all this would have required in TT rules to begin with and forcing people who need to de-clarify the clarifications to write a WOT.
In other words... my answer was right and we didn't really need the last few posts to confuse Mak who never played TT at all.
TYVM for playing
EDIT: I would however like to thank everyone for getting me closer to 1000 posts
