Alright gents, I think the following qualifies for a BattleMech land speed record: (using The Drawing Board 2.0.7)

Codename: Roadrunner
Weight: 10 tons
Tech LVL: 3
Engine: Fusion XXL (4.5 tons)
Gyro: XL (1.5 tons)
Cockpit: Small (2 tons)
Internal: Endo (0.5 tons)
Equipped with: MASC (1 ton), Supercharger (0.5 tons), Null Signature System
(Fractional Accounting enabled)
Costs: 10.78 mil

Results: 26(65)/39/52 -> 65 x 10,75 = 698,75 KPH

That is 434 MPH on either two or four legs. Veyron says WHAT?!! ^^

reminds me of when I took one of those battlearmor/protomech things in MW3, stripped it and maxed speed, running around with a small laser to peck at mech's legs lol..Accidently running into a mech's foot was always funny though....didn't try it online. didn't want do die a bunch.

For those of us who played World of Tanks, some of us know what 72 km/h feels like in the game. That's typically the max speed of the fastest tanks. But with almost 130 km/h, it's approaching twice that speed. That's fast. That's blazing fast.

The difference in size was told already.
The difference in aiming technology was told already
But what made it hard to hit moving tanks in WoT was that you haven't got any chance to hit a moving tank at range. The Gun was leveled every time you moved your crosshair away - that means without useable aim it was luck when hitting a such a tank. As well as you automated weapons had seldom the power to do even the slightest tank any harm.

In MWO - you have laser - that hit an instance after you pulled the trigger, you have weapons that may hit a target after you got a lock - and your autocannon at least are able to fill the place before your target with hot metal.

The rest is training...

A similar exercise, created in Solaris Skunk Werks 0.6.81:
The Zippy.

Pretty much identical stats, came out to a move speed of 28/42 (70).

756.0 kph == 469.8 mph.

Admittedly, the Roadrunner is more useful due to the Null Signature System. But this is a contest of speed, and I'm not sure if it's possible to get faster than this on the ground. :)

I'm interested in seeing this as well. I'm not familiar with KM/H metrics, but 130kph = about 80mph. And I can picture 80mph. That is FAST! I hope the animations look believable. Something that nimble would be a nightmare to get a bead on.

FYI: 1M/h =1.6 KM/h

Most interesting. I might have to dig out the ol HMP and see if I can beat that.
Admittedly, I just threw in the Null because it didn't affect the tonnage and had 'interesting' side effects hehe

You want something fast, techlevel 1, right away at the start of MWO? Forget about the Cicada. Anybody knows the Dart? It´s from TRO 3055 but it has no Lostech, except for its three small pulse lasers (but these should be swapped for mediums anyway). This fast friend can be rebuild on the basis of the Commando (at least if it is possible to increase the reactor rating). Then speed is 9/14 and it still mounts said three lasers and 3,5 tons of armor. Maybe i give it a try.

Are you aware that there was/is a MW4 Mech racing league? The fans may have an interest in MW:O top speeds and ways to satiate their need for 'even more speed'.

You know: the 8 walking/12 running mechs. Those light things with big engines for their weight class. Locust, Spider, Ostscout, Cicada, et al.

So, how true is MWO going to be in terms of scaling speed accurately to the in-game distance we'll be running with our mechs? And it gets even better with the mech lab when we can go faster than that.

If it is accurate, I hope both our systems and the client itself can handle that blazing fast run speed! If so, it will be a wicked ride. ;)

my toyota goes 115 mph, which is like 180 kph. too bad my atlas only goes 57ish kph running which is like 40 mph.

The Snowfox (Clan Ice Hellion) and Solitaire (Clan Diamond Shark) nears 200+ KPH with MASC. Might be designs that could be looked into emulating using Level 2 Inner Sphere/Star League tech.

Good point. Things will be at a much bigger scale, so a huge mech might not feel as fast as a small tank going the same speed.

Here's the T2 LT tank in WoT (someone else's video) of it hitting 71 km/h...

hey somebody found my video on the YouTubeZ :)

Back to topic:
anyone of you guys played the new spider?
sound like some of you are true speed-a-holics in MW(O)
I'm kinda the heavy guy in the background type of player but a fast round with my jenner from time to time ... wow that speed

Ahhh. A blast from the past. It's nice to see how optimistic we were back then. As the OP stated, I wonder if the game will handle these speeds. :)
