To an Xbox near you... Mechwarrior Online.
How? you say, well think about this.
1. The focus has shifted from long time BT fans to recruiting younger gamers in mass numbers.
2. Introduction of controls (Gas pedal and making it default) more suited to a game pad type controller.
3. 3rd person view (more suited to arcade/console FPS's)
4. Removal of R&R (pimply 13 year olds don't care about money, just want to shoot stuff)
5. Consumable items which give a power boost in game (typical console mechanics).
6. An incoming Lobby system but not like we would expect. (who knows but suited to 1v1 match ups maybe?)
7. CW no mention, because they are working on porting to Xbox
8. Collisions removed because it simpler for new players
9. Support for lower specced machines (xbox is fairly old now)
10. Default arm lock (makes no sense except makes it more like generic FPS)
11. Microsoft ultimately own the electronic gaming rights and could force PGI to do it if they wanted too or remove the rights altogether.
I really really hope not, but I have this funny feeling.
Thoughts?

I'm torn between supporting your conclusion and offering you a tinfoil hat to help with your paranoia.

Come back and check in a year.

You lost me when you tried to insinuate that 3rd person view is somehow a console thing.

Since at one time this game was designed for PC and for 360 it is possible but not probable now. All sources have said the 360 project was canceled, and that was prior to open beta.

Modern War does not have consumables. Kill streaks, yes.
The throttle changed by default so everyone would have to see it and choose. I don't think a gas pedal is good or points to console, since plenty of pilot games on consoles have permanent speed throttles too.
Third person was always coming to maximize player base and potential profits.
Repair was pay to win, or more appropriately, pay to do very little difference. It was also wildly exploitable.
Collisions were unbalanced because they halfarsed the physics.
This game still doesn't run well on low machines, and would probably cause an Xbox to shart the bed.
Arm lock is great for converged broadsides, just like previous games.
Microsoft can't force anything. This license is for a pc title. If Microsoft was going to push Mechwarrior to console they would just sell another license and make money twice.

The trend certainly does support a little paranoia about the game being simplified for mass consumption. Hopefully they can satisfy the more "hardcore" audience as well.

wrong. the teen market is the largest. why do you think we are inundated by Justin Beiber or Taylor Swift? You know nothing of today's marketplace. For every 35 year old guy playing this game there are 4 15 year olds. And if you think they don't get hold of money to spend on video games then... uh... i don't know what to tell you. I was at this guys house the other night, he had a theatre built for his kids, with 8 lazy boys in it, every console game there is, hooked up with surround sound on what appeared to be a 100 inch flatscreen tv or projector or something.. it was huge, obscene and rediculous. there were about 10 kids in that room playing black ops arguing over which game to play next.
"Dad I want 15 bucks for MWO."
"Then mow the lawn."
"K. Dad, lawn is mowed, 15 bucks worth of MC please!"
"Ok son now shadap."
but that doesn't matter, because I like MWO no matter how they decide to change it up, but it needs more maps BAD and the devs should heed my warning the teens will move on if they get bored from not having enough maps! also there needs to be better ways to join wings, find servers, filter maps, so forth.

1: Not really. It is just that in the real world the BT fanbase is way to small for any one to bet on them plowing enough cash to support a game. Much smarter to widen the market.
2: Yes.. partially right.. Making a game more accessible usually brings in more people. If this is what people are used to.. Do it.
3: Have already been in at least one MW game and as you say it will pull in more people... More people equals more money
4:RnR did not work... It was of no consequence for some and a huge tackle for others depending in weight class and weapons.. This forced people to play mechs and setups they did not enjoy.. thus it had to go.
5: Eh.... consumables have been around in pretty much ALL rpgs and shooters since the dawn of time.. this is not something that is a "console mechanic"
6: Indeed who knows.
7: Actually CW is slated for june-july for stage one.. together with above mentioned lobby system. (source NGNG podcast)
8: Collision removed because it was buggy as *bleeeeep* and caused some really funny warping issues. (first hand account as a light pilot during early beta)
9: So is your grandma's computer.. but she still drives a dragon better then you.
10: Agreed this is to make it easier for the average FPS player to get in to the game and while it does make them a bit less effective and thus less fun to have in a pug... that is pug life for you.
11: True... But they had no intention of making a MW game again. So why bother now.
Conclusion... You are either a rabble-rouser or slightly paranoid... or both.
While it is not impossible that the game is being ported to X-Box (what ever they end up calling the next gen) most changes are stuff that needs to be done in order to draw in the average player.
