The response is:

"Hey. If you play in premium time and buy some hero 'Mechs, the grind isn't too bad. It is F2P y'know. It's not like it's costing you any money".

Which is true. If you don't like the grind, get a Hero mech and some premium time. What if no one bought any MC for that to happen? Might as well close the game down right now. You can't have a free game with no income.

So now players are encouraged to grab a light mech and run continuously into an enemy group, stop, get killed, and rinse/repeat? Bryan! Wake up! You just gave the suicide farmers the green light! :P

No, you give bad people the green light.

I really do enjoy this game and am personally very interested to how it will turn out. I have been around since closed beta, and I wish I would have spent money on the founder package! I never post on the forums but read constantly, but due to the overwhelming whining, I feel that I should post to let PGI know that they have created a very entertaining game and I do enjoy playing it. Yes, I do occasionally get frustrated but doesn't everything cause that occasionally. It seems that the supporters should definitely speak up more to quiet down the goons and the band wagon jumpers.

The problem is that hero mechs and premium time also got devalued in that nerf.

They did not "adjust" the cbill gain to be the same as 8 vs 8 wich would have been fine, no they lowered the amount of cbills BELOW that.

So no the MC and hero mechs are not a good argument because PGI has shown that they nilly willy lower the value of allready purchased goods at their leisure and without former warning.

Try to pull that stunt in any other industry and you would be head over heels in class action lawsuits...

Except I have premium time running right now and the totals are still pathetic. That pretty much kills my desire to buy any more. If I'm going to earn {Scrap} no matter what, might as well do it for free. If they're looking to incentive premium time w/this business, they're going to have to adjust percentages or something.

There have been several posts within this very thread saying to the effect:

I was a founder, I was excited about MWO's vision, including 1PV only.

Now, 1PV is gone and I'm not playing anymore/not paying anymore/wish I hadn't paid for founders.

You're either not reading the thread, are delusional, or are a PGI sock puppet.

Lord........really?

LOL

Your stuck on your point and missing mine. No biggie. Moving on.

What I want to know is, how within a week they already have information on player retention and 3pv.

Are their standards for retaining players only one week? (Since thats only how long its been since 3pv has been implemented)

3PV, at least from the PR side, has been a total disaster. Calling it a 'great success' just rubs salt into the wound.

Well, I have taken a step back, took a good deep breath and read Bryan's post twice. Emotions are high and I must be taking it wrong......But I'll be damned! Every time I read that I feel like I am being punished, marginalized, threatened and shown the door, and all this because of YOUR communication shortcoming?

Please PGI tell me this is NOT what you wished to convey to me!

They don't, PGI is just fluffing the numbers to justify the failure of everything they do.

So if we have sooooooo many players... wheres the problem?

Could it be that we actually dont have that many players and this is just the captain of the titanic saying that everything is fine?

I believe you are correct, I am seeing a lot of posts from people playing and stating that they are seeing the same people in consecutive matches. When I was still playing I was seeing very few of the same people match after match. I honestly believe this game is in serious trouble and the powers that be are using smoke and mirrors and acting like business as usual.

Never, and I mean never have I ever saw a more displaced development team basically playing chicken with it's player base. I have played many games over the years and was always active in the forums and I have never seen any game development team or company representatives act as those here. I honestly don't know what they have to gain in doing all this, it's basically commercial suicide....

I don't normally post, I tend to read and if I see my concern voiced I don't bother. but maybe more of us do need to speak out so you can see that this silent majority agrees a lot more with the vocal minority. I'm in my 30's now and own every MechWarrior/MechCommander game released including the battletech's on my old amiga, and I'm starting to worry about the direction of this game. I know you need to get new players in, but the truth is that the battletech followers of old are the ones who stick with you if you treat them right and have jobs which allow them to spend money on mwo. Targeting kids with allowances and short attention spans doesn't seem to be a viable marketing strategy, you'll keep them til the next Cod or Battlefield comes out and their mother gives in from the nagging and gets it for their console. (I know it's a bit generic and rambled but I hope you get my point.) I love this game, I've loved all of the BT/MW/MC games since I was a tyke, I just want to see this continue in the grand footsteps laid down by it's ancestors.... I'll keep throwing my money at the screen if it stays true!

What is a gaming community?
A community is basically something very simple: it's just a group of people, gathering somewhere to talk and exchange ideas about one or several subjects. There have been gaming communities for ages, but they began to grow bigger and stronger with the internet.

Of course, in the past, to gather with your community, you needed to meet somewhere in your city, or travel a long way to see your fellow community members -- or even use snail mail. With the internet, all you need is push the power button of your computer, have an internet connection, and be able to read and write something barely understandable.

Beyond all sociological considerations, a gaming community is a group of people from all around the world, gathering mainly on internet to talk about games. And more specifically, about your games, whether you want it or not.

To build a gaming community, the players just need a game to talk about, and a place for discussion. Most of the time, it all starts with a forum, a few people, a lot of passion about a game. That doesn't mean that it will be a healthy or constructive community. That doesn't mean it will grow bigger and bigger, and spread your word all over the internet. That doesn't mean it will be of any use for you, whether you are a developer, a publisher or a player. It simply means that it exists.

But beyond technical tools like a website or a forum, a real community is characterized by something that's not material: community spirit. This strange thing expresses itself in many ways, but the point of it, in the end, is to keep the players together.

It is what motivates players to write strategy guides for other players, to create fan sites, to lead guilds, to create events on their own, to post on the forums even when they're not looking for any specific information, to give more than they receive, and so on.

In the end, community spirit is what makes players feel they're part of something bigger, and sometimes, an important part of this "something".

I think PGI/IGP has some reading to do. That's if they get their head out of their *** first.

Liking your own post is bad form, just sayin.... However, thanks for speaking out. A founder with only 3 posts certainly would qualify you as "silent".

That's the worst part of it all. This could all be solved via splitting the ques to allow for arcade and normal gameplay. They simply refuse to....

And the only reason they would refuse to do something that would make the game have a larger audience.... is because the current audience is too small or would leave the 3rd person que vacant.

Either way is a failure on their part so they instead do nothing. Which is failure in and of itself.

Im so board with this whole argument. Not you specifically tulip, but the whole argument from people on both sides. I understand how you feel as am not a fan of 3PV also, and many people here feel the same as you do. Im not a fan of how communication has gone as it seem you also have issue with. But I also work in software development and know that things change. Visions change. "Promises" (if you want to call them that) are revoked and broken, and sometimes for very good reasons. Sometimes not. You don't agree with them and I respect that. There are other people who are more understanding of PGI and what has transpired and I respect them.

Im just tired of going into the forums and its non-stop.

Person One: "PGI LIED!!!!"

Person Two: "No, THEY DID NOT!!"

PO: "YES THEY DID BECAUSE OF X, Y, and Z!!!"

PT: "NO THEY DID NOT BECAUSE OF A B and C!!!"

I mean really? Is this not boring? And a bit frustrating as well? Maybe not the first time, but for the 500th?

Cant we all just get along!!!! :-) (I know the answer to that, just wanted to say that line)

EDIT: corrected some spelling :-)

Well said.

As the official silent majority spokesperson I would just like to say on behalf of the silent majority that this game is bad and you should feel bad for still playing it in its current state.

That is all.

It's interesting they are putting out this, when it has been proven conclusively that nothing they say can be taken as truthful, but just 'the truth we want it to be for the moment'. Statements by the company are not to be taken as in any way binding, and anything said is subject to denial when the market demographics indicate a profit in doing so.

Seriously, how can a company that faults it's communication skills by saying they shouldn't be telling the playerbase as much as they did before, nor make any statements that could be taken to be binding/assurances then go on to say 'look at all that's coming up'? By doing so, you are either violating the idea embraced by the Devs that the ideal player relations stance is to not tell the players anything, or you are (again) making false statements to appease the masses in the hope no one will remember your track record.

Especially disturbing is that a company encouraging its playerbase to look at the big picture is still incapable of understanding that there was no miscommunication in the 3PV issue...it was clearly stated what and how it would be implemented it. It was posted on the Forums, in the Dev's own section, for all to clearly read, for weeks! The fault was in the Devs failing to uphold their own statements and doing exactly what they said they would never do. THAT was the failure that the Devs need to apologize for, and seem are still incapable of recognizing that this was wrong to do.

In short: What good is this 'Update' when we know nothing in it can be believed or taken as what is truely intended by the Devs?
