On the subject of trial mech new player experience lets not forget that such "awesome great players" as NGNG had to FAKE playing trial mechs by playing owned mechs to make them look viable.

Unless you're running the Champion mechs... 90%+ of ANY stock variant in this game are completely ill-equipped to compete with customized mechs, even while when the players are equally skilled. There is no way around this simple fact. You are already at a disadvantage... you might as well be just sticking with the stock pistol in Counterstrike or the crowbar in Half-Life and have a better a "slightly better chance of survival" than you would in MWO.

38 pages now of more anger, hatred and rage. That is more obvious than the very few, miniscule likes that are probably being posted by fake accounts themselves.
Let's just all remember folks. We who have been here the longest, dropped the most money, voiced our hearts and opinions on a game we love, don't matter. We're not the target demographic. We should all just stop posting and walk away.

That measn experienced paid shills in a four man can't even make trial mechs viable.

And that's hilarious

lulz... wait what?

I'd love to hear more about this. Actually nah I changed my mind, I don't.

September Creative Developer Update

... while continuing to make the game appeal to a broader audience of gamers (3PV). After releasing 3PV we saw an immediate improvement in our target demographic, with a good bump in new player retention!

It's also not shady in the slightest that they buried this thread:
http://mwomercs.com/...ence-of-gamers/
which shows that there really isn't a marked increase in players drawn in(not in a meaningful way).

At best a small percentage of the total population is recruited new every week. Shouldn't you wait a little while before examining how many are "retained"? Or are your standards for retention so low that a week is enough? I would have thought a minimum standard for "retained" would be weeks of play, or purchased MC.

What kind of awful analysis do you have to do be confident in making those statements so quickly? It's lying with statistical jargon, and not even numbers. And it's PROUDLY in the first paragraph.

Freaking hilarious!! - "Use your aggressive feelings, boy" - I can't stop laughing. This sums it up, however I must note that the correct line from the movie is "let the hate flow through you". Still hilarious though.

The learning curve in MWO is totally unforgiving. If you make it far enough to get your 3rd mech/variant... you are probably going to hang around... and the number of people that fit into that category is generally not the demographic PGI is looking for.

Do you understand that you just helping devs that [sensored] you?

I've never heard of a gun dealer telling someone to go ahead and shoot someone. Yet it happens
I've doubt that car dealers tell people to street race. Yet it happens.

Bottom line is that people WILL abuse anything that they can. I'm not crying doom of any sort. I am saying that one statement contradicts the other one. If you don't feel as they do, that's fine with me. I wasn't trying to convince you of anything anyway.

Now please stop quoting me.

I have he was a yank, who was ex army and was a gun seller and was also a backer in paintball in the early 90's at a party one night to show how great this new body armour was, he gave someone a loaded hand gun and said shoot me....

he lived..didn't even make honourable mention in the darwin awards is the sad part..I wish to hell I could remember his name

Do you understand that I'm just trying to help the part of community that is ignoring the hard realities of the very game they are defending?

Edit:
I'm not even sure what the ETA for getting 3 variants going on a newbie account would take, but I'm hazarding a guess of a month or two if the player is somehow willing to trudge through the pain (with, usually someone who's already still playing this game) and getting out of the mental hole of "how am I going to be successful in this game" after losing so many matches.

Since as a founder, a BT, and mech warrior fan I am no longer part of their target demographic My non demographic money will stay with me until PGI realise' that its the people like me that will drop large amounts of cash on this game when they give us the right reasons too. I have spent well over 400 make that nearly 600 dollars on this product. I think if PGI expect casual gamers to drop that kinda cash on this game they are deluded.

Founders should be the heart and soul of your community PGI. The people who love the game the people who hang around in the hope that this game ends up being half the game MW4 Mercs was. You should be working to keep them not taking a shat on them every chance you get.

Here's the first post from a Founder that I just came across over in the Feedback Thread for Russ' Fauxpology.

Apparently he just found out that he isn't the "Target Demographic" either.

Did you read the September update? They said the average is 76k per match.

When you add in the suicide bombers, yes, that's about right. It happens about 50% of the matches somebody runs out and suicides. So his 25k C-Bills brings the average down.

Unfortunately, PGI has chosen the young / impatient / lazy shooter fans as their target demographic, instead of the older Battletech / MechWarrior fans, who will stick with this game forever and spend quite a bit on it as long as PGI keeps the game appealing to us.

You know what I find the most depressing and hilarious at the same time? That in a thread like this with so much nerd rage and anger. That not ONCE have any of the devs, even the lower ones, come in here to drop their two cents in on the matter and try to quell a potential uprising.
Like I said before PGI. Keep this going. Pitchforks, torches and a march on your doorstep with lawyers in tow is right around the corner.

Exactly. They're trying to Call of Duty this game to death.

Dissappointedthat we have to wait another month for CW info and UI 2.0, but not up in arms about it.

Worried that their decisions are based on players hard core grinding. Without any pause to drink, chat or tweak mech builds. Which doesn't seem realistic. Did they count searching time?
Also disappointed they said 10 million can get you two mechs. A jenner costs over 12 million.

Really worried they're balancing on flawed assumptions.

Would LOVE to see your first 10 wins a week award an extra 100, 000 so the whole game isn't tuned around hardcore grinding rates.

They have the numbers, so I'll trust em on new player retention.
Butreally worry they're misconstruing the data on cbills.

I've made zero cbills in the last two weeks because I tweaked a couple mechs and bought weapons. There's 4 million gone.
That's 50 games...?

Excuse me if I find this statement a tad disturbing Mr. Ekman. A year ago when I paid my money to be a Founder, every indication you folk gave was that I was your "target demographic". Back then we were told first person only and honestly I could live with a separate queue (til 1st person atrophied and died at the hands of your "new demographic" anyhow), we were told no coolant flushes, and a host of other things that you have backtracked on. So, be honest, we aren't your target demographic and really never have been are we? I'm feeling best described as a stepping stone, something to be used and left behind as you reach for the new bigger and more financially milkable new demographic. It's OK really, just be honest, quit leading me on and just make a clean break with us. Sure it'll hurt but it'll be over sooner. UPDATE- after fuming over this last update and it's implications, I find myself inching towards requesting a Founders pack refund, something I wasn't considering before. I believe it's possible if you start reading the Canadian Competition Bureaus position on misleading advertising and labelling, in particular "False and Misleading Representations". Feel free to read it yourself and make up your own minds; http://www.competiti.../eng/02776.html For myself, if I don't see some mea culpas, a decent apology, and some move to take care of first person players by launch I think I'll file some complaints and demand my $120 back. Geez, and I was really hoping for some positive news this week.

I asked my Overlord refund even before this incredibly offensive "creative developer update".

But I will not ask a refund for my Founders, as I really enjoyed my Atlas(F) and the MC's. I'm just sad of losing all my stashed Premium Time - because I will not resume playing MWO if the game continue this way.

Its actually there to get around not being able to give new players some free mechs to start off. Instead making them use those awful trials. I really hope their UI2.0 scraps this mechanic and instead has some kind of rental program, that way people can get into their mech of choice and begin customizing well before earning the X millions of CBIlls for it. For instance the F2P game Blacklight does this and as long as you played a few matches a day you could keep renting that gun and scope and stock every day, and eventually save up enough to buy it outright. This is what MWO should go for.

I hadn't thought of this, but it's a pretty good idea. I see two most obvious approaches:
1. Rental: You can't upgrade structure and it takes a percentage off of all winnings until you have either paid its full value or given it back.
2. The Tom Nook approach: let them buy a mech with no money, but don't let them upgrade structure (endo, DHS) or buy a new one until they've paid it off

Both give you more choice than trial mechs while still providing a huge incentive to fully buy mechs. At the same time, it lets vets test drive new mechs without having to risk being stuck with a multi dozen ton paperweight.

I've never understood why PGI seems so deadset on awful trial builds.
