scJazz is right, but just in case I'll give you a slightly more in-depth description.

1. Right now, weapon groupings can only be set when you are in a match, you cannot set your weapon groups in the Mechlab (this functionality should be added with the UI 2.0 update which is coming soon).

2. When in a game, all of your weapons are listed in the grid in the bottom right corner of your HUD, and beside them are the numbers 1 through 6 - those numbers represent your 6 weapon groups.

3. Using the up/down arrow keys you can highlight a specific weapon. Using the left/right arrow keys you can highlight a specific weapon group. Pressing right control toggles the highlighted weapon to either be assigned to the highlighted group (the number will turn a brighter yellow) or removed from the highlighted group (the number that was bright yellow goes grayed out).

4. If you wish to set an entire weapon group (i.e. "column 4" or whatever) to Chain Fire (each weapon in that group will be fired, one at a time, each time you click the button instead of all of the weapons in the group firing at once) highlight that weapon group and hit Backspace - hitting Backspace again will turn Chain Fire off.

5. Any weapon can be assigned to any group, and weapons may be placed into multiple groups.

6. By default, the left mouse button fires whichever weapon group is highlighted - not weapon group 1. This can be changed in the options menu along with the rest of the keybindings.

Some other notable tips:

Weapons listed on your HUD are ordered from the Left part of your Mech to the Right part of your Mech (such that, if you have two medium lasers on each arm, the top two Medium Lasers on your weapon grouping display will be the two on your Left Arm, and the bottom two Medium Lasers are the two on your Right Arm). Personally, when I'm playing a laser boat, I generally like to map my Left arm weapons to my Left Mouse Button and my Right Arm weapons to my Right Mouse Button.

Though AMS and ECM are listed under your weapon grouping display, neither can be toggled on or off using the arrow keys & control. AMS is always on and active, and ECM can be changed from Disrupt to Counter by pressing J.
